I go into all of my books with a positive mind, even though I thought the synopsis sounded off to me. Nothing like the main female character already having a boyfriend for a chunk of the story. Well, I thought that this issue was going to be done more tactfully than that. Nope. So, I'm about to go into spoiler time, so reader beware. Alex is not only head over heals for this Vera Cruz guy, she boinks him. Several times. Explicitly. Like, the scene is written out. We, as a reader, get to go through in details how she's boinking the bad guy. Yep. That right there, folks, breaks a lot of romance novel rules. Not only having sex with another person in the book is a no-no (considered "cheating," even if the pair aren't technically together), but writing the scene out is like triple dipple nope. There are only a few romance genres that might be able to get away with this, and that's dark romances and possibly mc romances...the ones that are supposed to be raw and gritty. Why I'm seeing this in a contemporary/romantic suspense romance? I have no idea. It was bizarre and unneeded.

Besides what I discussed in the spoiler, the main characters were flat. The writing was lackluster. The plot moved slowly. This ended up in my DNF pile. I just couldn't do it. The more I read, the worse it got, and I have way to many books to read to stay on something like this.

I liked this story except the sexual content was more than I liked. In fact it takes over the story in certain parts. I thought Alex's obsession took over her thinking process and put her in the position she became involved in.It did have a nice ending.
