About the author

A specialist in modern British history and the history of the modern Middle East, Roger Adelson is Professor of History Emeritus at Arizona State University. He received a bachelor's degree with honors from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree from from Oxford University, his master's and doctoral degrees from Washington University, St. Louis, where he held a graduate Danforth Fellowship. He was an Alistair Horne Research Fellow at Oxford and taught briefly at Harvard before joining the Arizona State University faculty in 1974.
