The Engagement, Suzanne Robinson's second book in The English Gunslingers Duet was a disappointment. Was so looking forward to reading Nick's story after meeting him in book one, Lady Dangerous. Robinson started out the book with a bang, but it quickly developed into a whimper of "I love [him] [her], but . . ." thoughts.
The premise for the story line was a clever one -- just imagine the pairing of an ex-thief from St. Giles and a duke's daughter. There could have been all kinds of witty repartee and fascinating twists and turns to take in the story. There were a few twists and turns, but mostly the book consisted of misunderstandings and stand-offs between the hero and heroine.

Robinson really is hit or miss with me and this was a miss. Didn't even finish. The characters behave irrationally and the plot was unnecessarily convoluted. Boooooooo
This book was quite entertaining. The characters where fun and it was an added bonus that there was a bit of a mystery thrown into the plot. As any romance it had some steamy scenes thrown in with the mindless brain candy :0) An all around fast enjoyable read, to take your mind off of reality for a few hours.
The plot basically revolves around Lady Georgiana Marshal making a deal to marry the elderly Earl of Threshfield so as to not get trapped into a marriage to a younger man where she would loose her freedom. Her brother sends out his best friend Nick Ross to put a stop to this nonsense. The plot is thickened by the Earls Nephew & his wife having set their sites on taking over the estate once the earl passes and Lady Georgiana stands in their way.
