Emily Dickinson's manuscripts, complicated as they are, have quite a remarkably dramatic history. Franklin's discussion is absolutely thorough, clearly written, and well-documented. So much so that, though I am admittedly a non-expert, I feel quite well rehearsed in the editing (and difficulties) of Dickinson's poetry.
