First I want to preface all of these short reviews with the thought that it must be very hard to write a good, solid story with just 100 pages and secondly that I know these stories are supposed to be easily enjoyable and reach the perfect light hearted pitch for a happy holiday read. BUT every Christmas season I pull out all my Christmas story collections and read them so I know that it is possible to have an excellent Christmas story written in 100 pages.

"A Highland Christmas" by Christine Cameron is a short romantic tale set in the wild Scottish highlands and takes place over the 12 days of Christmas. It is set during the reign of King George when relations between Scotland and England are still bitter. The story is filled with Christmas magic, love at first sight with a dash of the paranormal. The characters are both charismatic but their flaws make it easier for a reader to connect to them. A solid three star story - enjoyable and perfect with a cup of hot chocolate on a cold night.

Jill Henry's "Sara's Gift" is a sweet story. I think my only real complaint about it is that the characters as too perfect. Gabes only "flaw" is a slight clumsiness which is seen as more of an adorable aspect than anything else meanwhile Sara is beautiful, delicate, strong willed and elegant all of which she has apparently cultivated while working herself to the bone her whole life without looking the least bit haggard or worn. Still its a nice story of serendipity and a child's wish for Santa to bring her what she really wants. I would give it 2.5 stars if that was possible because, for me, its caught between "okay" and "like" but since 2.5 doesn't work - 3 it is!

"When All Through the Night" by Tracy Sumner. Okay I love this story - I seem to have a penchant for female characters with a temper (lets call it spunk) and boys who are just on the good side of bad.
