Long for a board book at 22 pages, Babar and the new Baby covers the first year in the life of Princess Isabelle.
Pleasant, non-challenging, the pictures display with strong gender clothing and colors (which when dealing with elephant characters is somewhat-needed but annoying if you want to break away from traditional restrictions). At the end of the day nothing really stands-out about this book to make it a keeper. But then children board books rarely survive the teething stage.

I found it to be fine but a bit boring.

I love the excitement and love the Babar family shows towards the new baby.

This is an adorable book that discusses the addition of a new child into a family of elephants. The book follows Isabelle, the new edition from the time she arrives home to becoming a young adult. It documents her progression from her first step to dancing. It talks about the new things she explores, but most of all loves her family. The pages of this book are nice and thick, tear proof so it would be perfect to read to a young child.

This was frankly rather bad. I picked it up out of nostalgia for the Babar series but the illustrations seem recycled from other books and the text is completely banal. The genderized clothing also annoyed me, despite being correct as to the original books and the monkey friend guy seems rather like racial tokenism. I'm likely being harsh but I had hoped they'd be able to come up with better than this.

Cute book about a new baby named Isabelle coming into Babar's elephant family. The story follows Isabelle through her first few years growing as she learns to play and walk, has her first birthday and explores. Had to give this one first stars since the baby elephant's name is Isabelle - and it talks about her first birthday which we just had a few weeks ago!
