How shall I put this? Okay, straightforward should do. As is made clear in the dedication to Psalm of the Killer Whales, I'm a man!!! Suddenly, I feel like Jack Lemmon at the end of Some Like It Hot.
Anonymity, of course, is the reason why I chose to use a pen name. But why a female one? At first, such certainly wasn’t the plan. However, the male names that I came up with, just didn't sound right; and then I had an idea which proved impossible to get rid of. Why not call myself Anne-Marie Neil?
The pen name was made up from names of my brother and sister - both of whom died as babies. So the pen name became a way of remembering them; and I think it looks good on book covers, too.
As for the seven books which - on Nov. 24th, 2011 - I published in paperback onto Amazon.com, and worldwide onto Kindle, I dubbed them The Killer Whale Books. This is because Orcas feature in the storylines of three of them, and have signature references in the other four. Regardless, The Snow Dragon Trilogy forms part of The Killer Whale Books septet.
A little bit more about myself? I live in an English cathedral city; and I'm writing this note in a crowded café there, during early December of the year in which the books were published.
A short walk away along a wooded riverbank, there once stood a lamp which, reputedly, gave C. S. Lewis inspiration for a famous scene in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; and the riverbank stands in the shadow of a cathedral used in two films about a certain boy wizard. I guess I live in a great place for a writer.
My coffee mug is empty. I'm going to post these words onto Author Central, and buy another latte!
Best wishes, The brother of Anne-Marie and Neil.
Update.
Unbelievably, seven years have passed since I bought that latte; but now I'm back in the same café, to write this postscript to my Author Page.
Since 2011, seven new titles have been added both on Kindle and in paperback, to the booklist of Anne-Marie Neil: WhaleWorld; Shinobu and the Chinese Watercolor; Shinobu and the Whale; Here be Shinobu and Ice Dragons; Shinobu and the End of the World; Kraken Fjord; and The Reindeer Police.
Also, I’ve published five Kindle-exclusive collections of my works: The Killer Whale Books; The Snow Dragon Trilogy; Whale Tales; The Complete Adventures of Shinobu Yamashiro; and Tales Beneath Far North Skies.
If my maths are correct, that gives you fourteen paperbacks and nineteen Kindle Books to choose from – so I hope you can find at least one favourite among them!!!
Best wishes again, The brother of Anne-Marie and Neil. Hi
