Not gonna lie, I almost quit Les Miserables: Selections from the Movie around page 80. Glad I didn't. Claude-Michael Schonberg takes a minute to warm up, but once the pieces start connecting, it moves fast. The payoff is real. Great for patient readers, rough for anyone who bails on slow openings.

Great music; less great bookbinding. And really, I would've scrapped Suddenly for Red and Black - selections from the movie or not.
