Brander is part one of a series called the Faerie Realm Chronicles. It is a coming of age story about a boy named Ian Prescott. Ian's destiny lies within the past he cannot remember and the future he can only imagine. Descended from the ancient Druids of Britain and Faerie Realm royalty, only an ancient family relic and the magic wielded by a Scion of Faerie will be enough to save the realm from an insidious mage and restore the Queen of Faerie to her rightful throne.Driven by an ancient family covenant and a desire to unravel the mysteries surrounding his past, Ian joins his cousin, Drew, on an adventure into the Faerie Realm. Together, they must restore the Queen of Faerie to power and fulfill their ancestor's sacred trust. Only through this journey, will Ian discover the truth about his past, as well as the truth about himself.

I won a copy of The Scions of Faerie in a drawing. It was such an enjoyable read that I felt compelled to do a review.
The story is of two cousins, one an orphan, who live near Stonehenge. Ian, the orphan, lost his parents in a boating accident (so it is thought) and he was taken in by his aunt and uncle. In the recesses of his mind, he knows there is something more to his parents’ death, and something more to his future.
It all comes to a head when Ian and Drew, his cousin, see something strange at Stonehenge, which was going through a renovation. That starts a journey for the two teens, the hero and his sidekick, as they discover family secrets and a whole other world with a queen, elves, flying horses, magic swords, and, of course, an evil entity threatening to destroy everything by killing Ian.
This is the first book of a YA fantasy series. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to read the second book.
This is a really fun YA fantasy book that has a lot to offer fans of this genre. I'm a big fan of books featuring faeries, any type of magic, or Celtic legend. The author created an interesting version of the Fae kingdom that echoed some Celtic lore I'd read. I also loved the magical references. As someone who practices a nature-based religion, this appealed to me. I often read books with these themes for the beauty of the themes alone. Readers can also guess from the cover that Stonehenge has an important role in the book.
There is some death, action, and conflict in the book, so while it's definitely appropriate for mid-upper YA readers, some MG readers might find the content a bit much. The book isn't gory, though, and it doesn't have gratuitous violence. The conflict in the book serves to drive the plot and encourage character growth.
Thematically, The Scions of Faerie reminded me of the books of Alan Garner and Susan Cooper. A well paced MG/YA adventure with well-drawn characters and evocative settings. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
This book is a YA fantasy that transports us to the world of magic and adventure. Through the ancient portals of Stonehenge lies a dangerous world, based on Celtic mythology, which holds all the answers to the questions of Ian, our male lead. He is a brash teenager who is held in check by Drew, his older cousin. To be honest, I liked Drew’s character more than the male leads.
Ian grabs the opportunity to travel to this new land to avenge his parent's death and it turns out they also need to save this faerie realm while learning about it all, along the way. The whole book has a Lord of the Rings feel to it and it's fast-paced.
scions of faerie is a fast paced ya fantasy that is SO easy to get through, i practically read it in such less time compared to how fast i read other fantasy books! without getting into too many spoilers, it's a revenge story of a young boy and read it to find out what he's seeking revenge for and if he succeeds.
there is a lot of adventure in this book and i thoroughly enjoyed that. ian, our main character has bonds with few people and it was heartwarming 🩷 drew, another major character, is my favourite🩷🩷
if you enjoy fantasy stories, you'll definitely like this one.
This is an exciting, fantasy story about two young boys from Earth who go adventuring into another realm filled with magic and danger.
The boys don't have a easy path ahead. There is a deadly enemy to locate and send to his permanent imprisonment, a Queen to save, and parents to avenge.
If you're in the mood for a young adult fantasy world adventure, this series starter is probably exactly what you should try out.
It's been a real pleasure reading this book at different speeds, some times re-reading. The depth and lore in the novel is something that grabbed me immediately.
The stories of the Fey Kingdom and of Ian and Drew. This is a book that will never leave me now and I feel lucky to have found it.
An absolute joy and looking forward to more of this genre by J.D. Edwards.
A fantastic escape world for YA that links this world with others. Through the ancient stone portals of Stonehenge there lies another universe that holds dangers and answers in equal measure. Ian is a very relatable brash and insensitive teenager, held in check by his older cousin. Together they weather bereavement, disloyalty and some tricky inter-racial tension as they journey on their quest. Nicely paced with solid world building.
The Scions of Faerie is a beautiful fantasy; well-organized, elaborate and a well-told story. It meets all the requirements of the Fantasy genre in terms of creating an alternative reality, populating it with beings from mythology, lore, and of the author’s own creation and then casting human notions, perceptions, and behavior against that backdrop. I loved the vivid picture drawn of Faerie with its two suns, multiple moons, days twice as long as ours, its unparalleled magic tradition, and its golden grass that is so alive that it makes our world appear dim by comparison.
While the protagionist for this story is Ian the character that i enjoyed was Drew. Where Ian was rash and impulsive, Drew was calm. Ian used the power of his sword Brander to fight but Drew had to go by his own wits. It was a little disappointing that Ian could instanly fight. And im not sure about the princess. Hot headedness runs in that family. But its a fun read with a lot of interesting characters!
The Scions of Faerie is a spellbinding YA fantasy that takes readers on an enchanting and emotional journey, seamlessly blending ancient Celtic mythology with thrilling adventure and rich character development. From the very first page, the book draws you into a world brimming with danger and mystery, making it impossible to put down.
The story centers on Ian, who was raised by his aunt and uncle after the unexplained death of his parents. When Ian and his cousin Drew stumble upon a hidden realm through the ancient portals of Stonehenge, they find themselves immersed in a magical faerie world full of mythical creatures and dark forces. Together, Ian and Drew embark on a perilous quest to uncover the truth behind Ian's past and rescue the queen of the Fae Kingdom, who also happens to be Ian's aunt. Along the way, Ian must protect the faerie realm from an impending threat, all while discovering the wonders and dangers of this captivating world. The adventure challenges Ian's courage, loyalty, and strength, revealing profound truths about both himself and the world he inhabits.
The Scions of Faerie is an ideal choice for readers eager to explore a world filled with enchanted forests, sparkling rivers, hidden caves, and ancient ruins. The faerie kingdom is vividly brought to life, and for me, this was the standout aspect of the book. Ian’s emotional growth and character development are excellently portrayed throughout the story.
Overall, this is a beautifully written YA fantasy that blends intricate world-building, compelling character arcs, and an exciting plot to deliver an unforgettable adventure. I eagerly look forward to the sequel, which will undoubtedly delve deeper into the fates of the characters and continue this thrilling tale.
The story starts with Ian's parents saving him and getting themselves drowned when Ian is only 5 years old. Then it fast-forwards to the current state, where Ian and his cousin are racing to Stonehenge, and he sees a clocked man, yet nobody else seems to notice, not even his cousin. What he discovered next was the world of the faeries set in the magical fantasy adventure. This book is an action packed novel that keeps the reader itching for more twists and turns when they are least expected.
The action and the characters in this book were very entertaining and I must say I enjoyed it a lot.The characters are gripping & you really want to know more about them. It was enjoyable to find out how they were going to get to where you knew they were going. The relationships are complicated by their family histories and legacies.
The character's growth is heavily influenced by their past experiences and relationships. All of them were well-developed, each facing their pasts and the weight of their family legacies. The mystical elements enhance the plot, providing a unique backdrop for the characters' quests and challenges.
The writing style is engaging drawing readers into its richly imagined world. The author employs a descriptive narrative that vividly paints the settings and emotions of the characters, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the story.
The interactions between characters are relatable showcasing their struggles with trust and identity in a way that resonates with the readers. The pacing is well-balanced and keeps readers invested in the characters' journeys, as they experience both external challenges and internal conflicts.
If you love fast-paced fantasy adventures filled with magic, action, and Celtic mythology, The Scions of Faerie by J.D. Edwards is a must-read!

First of all, I loved this book🫡 This book is a thrilling adventure filled with magic, action, and revenge. The main character, Ian, sets out on a quest to avenge his parents’ deaths. Along the way, he receives a magical sword, which is described in vivid detail, making it feel like an essential part of the story. The sword’s power was written in such details gave me an idea what kind was it!
The writing is clear and easy to understand, making the book a quick read. There’s no unnecessary fluff—everything is to the point, which I very much liked.
The characters are well-developed and interesting, each with their own strengths and flaws. Ian, in particular, is a strong and determined protagonist, and the supporting characters, like Drew and BiAnn, complement the story perfectly. I loved the friendship between Drew and Ian, they were opposite poles but amazing as friends. Together, they create a dynamic and that becomes engaging and more exciting to read.
Also, the brief explanation of terms and different types of spells was so goodd. the book was well plotted with the magical creatures. If you enjoy fast-paced fantasy with strong characters, magical elements, and a solid supporting cast, this book is definitely worth reading. The cliffhanger at the end will leave you eagerly waiting for more!
AND thank you for giving me a copy of this in exchange for review 🙏🏼
I hold every character of this book dear to me, Ian,drew, kai and every character possible(substract the villains offc). This story began with making me emotional and ended with me being emotional. The last few pages, were all about the bond the brothers shared. And that felt different. It was precious. This just says how close and Dear the author holds these characters as his own sons. I honestly wasn't that into the book when I heard about it, but when I started to read it, it was magical. I would do anything to visit the faerie once.
The development of characters through the book was commendable. This book was full of adventures. And am really excited to read the next book. I want to know more of these characters. I never thought I would like a fantasy story of a 15 year old boy, but sir Edward, astonished me with his writing style and story. And this would be one of those rare books I can recommend to people of every age group. It was a wonderful experience, I was so hooked from start.
And the way the author has had described every character so perfectly, was so skillful. It was a 4.25 for me, and I would recommend it to everybody who's looking for an adventure in a book.
This is one fast-paced, adventurous YA fantasy filled with Magic & Danger.
Ian Prescott becomes an orphan when his parents get killed by A mage holding a grudge against them. He then grew up with his uncle, aunt, and his Cousin Drew. The bond between Drew & Ian is such a beautiful one with quite contrasting personalities. When Ian has dreams regarding his faerie heritage and receives a call from his Aunt, Queen Bevin, he returns to Faerie along with Drew to save the Queen from Turok(the Mage) on the request of Princess BiAnn.
This book is filled with action sequences and adventures. Although Ian is the main character, I liked Drew more because of his calm and collected demeanor in times of difficulty. Ian is temperamental and curious by nature for a 15-year-old, but I liked that he takes time to think when someone tells him the difference between right and wrong.
Each character in this book is well written and has an amazing narrative. I finished this book in one sitting; you can just understand now!!
For fantasy & Adventure lovers I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read the second one in the series after that cliffhanger!
The book took me to a different world. A world full of magic and mythical creatures. The author's imagination created an enchanting world. With the narrative, vivid description of the landscape and nature made this world feel very real. I loved the characters. The cast of the characters is diverse. Every character has something to say.
This book is full of adventure with some epic fight scenes, unpredictable twists, and a storyline that keeps the readers engaged. Honestly, more than half the time I was not sure whom to trust because of those twists.
I adore the bond between the two brothers. I liked their personal growth. The friendship of Ian Drew Kai added an extra layer to the story.
This is an epic journey through a world filled with magic and danger. Where you wouldn't know what awaits you at the next step. There are some mentions of some dark and heavy topics, so I am not sure whether this book is suitable for very young readers or not.
So if you love stories about magical worlds, epic fights and actions, loyalty, and self-discovery, then I think you are going to enjoy this book.

I had the pleasure of receiving a PR Box of The Scions of Faerie and is one of those books that grabs you from the first chapter and doesn’t let go. J.D. The main character, Ian, is easy to root for—he’s thrown into a world he doesn’t fully understand, but his courage and determination shine through. The story is packed with action, but it also gives room for character development and emotional depth. I especially loved the dynamic between Ian and his cousin Drew. Their bond added a layer of warmth and humor to the story, balancing out the darker moments. A fantasy story which checks all the criteria and which is more focused on world-building, plot and character development. I love books involving magic and fairies.
Ian and Drew embark on a journey that leads to unraveling family secrets, discovering a new world and saving the fairie realm. It's more like the story of boy to avenge his parents death and save the fairie realm which may cost him more than he is expected to give.
The story is organised, well-written with a clear focus on world-building, and plot. It's an adventurous read with engaging story and characters.
Definitely go for it if you are looking for YA fantasy romance with plot.
