Magnolia Belle

Magnolia Belle grew up in a military family and has lived in several U.S. states as well as the Orient. She graduated in 1978 from Tarleton State University, where, as editor of the University paper, she won first place in the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Editorial competition in 1977. She was also a member of "Who's Who Among Colleges and Universities" in 1977-78. She currently lives in Texas with her husband and their (spoiled) dogs.

A singer/songwriter and guitarist, she played with a band in the 1980s that made 3 albums. Belle proudly declares some Native American heritage. The above two facts are part of the basis of the Black Wolf series. Considering herself a native Texan, her T'on Ma and Black Wolf series are both set in that great state.

When Amanda Clark comes to Tascosa and starts a restaurant, the novelty of a pretty new (and single) woman attracts potential suitors galore. Amanda decides she likes Nate Bradford more than any of the others.

Not that this stops Brian McLeod from deciding that she will be his, come hell or high water.

That's the plot for this Old West historical romance.

My one gripe about this novel (and it cost the rating a full star) is that Brian's character seemed entirely two-dimensional. No one is all good or all bad, and Brian just felt like a cardboard cut-out of a "bad guy" to me.

An entertaining read, nevertheless.

To put it simply, Tascosa by Magnolia Belle is a must read. I could not put this novel down as I was drawn into a story filled with passion, strength and true emotion. As a reader you are swept back in time when Texas was a vast deadly territory, filled with Indians, cowboys and the outstanding character of Miss Amanda. The story Tascosa follows Miss Amanda as she strives to make her own in a world dominated by men. Pure love is found and lost within these pages, as Miss Amanda builds a ragged restaurant into a thriving business. All the while a rugged young cowboy by the name of Nate sweeps Amanda off of her feet. Unannounced to them the local land baron sets his eyes on the lovely newcomer. Obsession drives the land baron to unearned gains with Amanda when Nate is thought dead after he crosses paths with a vicious panther. But his love for liquor tares the land baron back down to reality when Nate reappears wanting his dream and true love back. Can the young lovers survive the onslaught that heads there way, or will the man who always had his way win in the end. Any reader is sure to agree with me when I say; Magnolia Belle defiantly has a way with words that leaves the reader wanting more.

A five-star read about life in the 1880s in Texas

Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in the 1880s in a rugged and untamed part of Texas? Magnolia Belle introduces you to life in Tascosa, a Texas panhandle town. Though the characters are fictional, both history buffs and those who enjoy a story about life in the 1880’s will delight at her colorful depiction and great dialogue written in the jargon of that era. The story will take you from shootouts to romantic scenes. All aspects of life and all its struggles can be found. I did a Google search to find out what is out there about Tascosa and found many factual places and names (http://www.texasescapes.com/TOWNS/Veg...). Tascosa is an excellent book that is worth the read.
