Finished this today, on a cold and rainy day. I enjoy these books. For me, they are escape books. Very enjoyable. I cannot relate to the situations, so the reading is relaxing and just removes me from the day to day. Perfect escape reading. Love them.
I have never read a book farther from reality than this one. We can assume Linda Castillo has never spent any time in the mountains. The hero and heroine are on the run from the villain and find themselves in the mountains (in a blizzard) close to the Canadian border. She is wearing a suit and blouse and he has hiking boots and a flannel shirt and pants (no undershirt). They are able to climb down a mountain and go through woods in below zero temperatures with snow over their knees for 10 miles of cross country trek without a hint of frost bite. Did I mention that he has broken ribs and is shot in the arm and she has a concussion and was unconscious for a few minutes? They find a broken down abandoned cabin where they take shelter. their clothing is soaked through, of course, so our hero makes a fire in the fireplace using a chair he breaks apart. He hangs the wet clothes over the back of a chair and they snuggle down under a blanket some one has thoughtfully left for them. When they wake up 2 hours later not only is the fire is still burning, even though it's below zero in the cabin the clothes are magically dry. He goes out and gets a pan of snow which he melts down so they can wash themselves and clean their wounds (the same someone has left them a sliver of soap along with the blanket). Do you know how much snow you have to melt to get even a cup of water? I think you get the idea. About 3/4 of the way through I had to give up on this book. It just wasn't worth the aggravation.
