Another oldie, but goody, from Sunset Books - the designs in this book may at first seem somewhat dated, but if you look at any furniture showroom or Ikea, you'll find that what was contemporary design in the 1970's is contemporary design today, as well. Old project books, such as this, or any other Sunset DIY book from the same era, are still great sources of information - workshop techniques and tricks, construction principles, and even desirable construction materials pretty much stay the same - the only things that really change are the prices of materials and the technology level of the tools used for a given project. Functionality of most projects in the book is very good and even the most modest of workshop skills would suffice to build most projects, too. There are a few that would require more specialized skills and tools, but most you could probably tackle with what you already own. If you're in the market for new furniture, I'd recommend this book instead of a trip to the local furniture store. In the long run, building your own will take longer - no doubts there - but will be more rewarding, using furniture built by your own hands. You will also be gaining new skills which will both enable and encourage you to take on more ambitious projects in the future - and you can't put a price on that.
