This one was a bit of a surprise. It’s a spy book that goes in all sorts of crazy directions. Our hero Twig is a photographer with a laissez faire lifestyle. His older brother, Jonathan, worked for a secret government spy agency and is now retired. Jonathan was always trying to recruit Twig to the agency, but Twig decided to go to college and travel.
This all changes when Johnathan and his daughter are brutally tortured and killed by defector from the agency named Wren. Seems Wren has switched sides with the Russians and has a major hatred for Jonathan. Now Twig finds himself wanting revenge and reluctantly teaming up with his brother’s former employers. He’s not sure who he can trust and the agency and Wren find out that there is more to Twig than meets the eye.
The book sprinkles in some violence and some kinky sex as well. One of the bigger twists I didn’t see coming is finding out that Twig is bisexual. Which I found a bit unique from this time period (1968).
