Author Bob Johnson admits that there has been a huge hole in his biblical and theological understanding. Despite having a seminary degree and having been in ordained ministry for over thirty-five years, it was missing from his tool kit all along. What is “it”? An understanding of the history and significance of the intertestamental period, i.e., the “time between the Testaments.”
We often hear talk of “the four hundred silent years,” which refers to the approximate time between the writing of the last biblical prophet, Malachi, and the birth of Jesus. From that phrase, we get the impression that not much of significance happened during those four centuries, at least not for salvation history. After researching the history of those four hundred “silent years, it is Bob’s desire to show you the reader why those years were anything but silent. They profoundly shaped the world Jesus was born into and in which Jesus ministered and founded the Church.
