In life, Harry had been a rogue and a rake, but in death he atones for his sins by helping others find love, including Giles Steadford, the new owner of the Abbey that Harry haunts. Reprint.
Sir Harry, the ghost, keeps trying to be seen and heard, but only a few are able. Sir Giles and his nurse, Elizabeth, are finally able to see him and Harry believes it's because they are destined to fall in love and marry. Unfortunately Giles' fiancee arrives with a pack of London ton to disrupt everything. This is the second of a delightful series featuring love and a matchmaking ghost.
Ignore the cover of this particular edition. It's a Regency romance, so if you like Regency romance, set in 1810, go for it.
Obviously, it's fantasy, thanks to the meddlesome ghost, who must atone for his sins in his physical life by making the members of the Steadford family fall in love with their true loves. In this particular episode, it's Major Sir Giles Steadford who's the recipient of the ghost's "help".
The characters could have been explored a little more, but it's not a long book, and I did like the main characters well enough that I want to read the other books in the series, in part to find out if the ghost, Sir Harry, manages to make enough Steadfords fall in love that he can quit being a ghost.
If you like Georgette Heyer's Regency romances, you'll probably like the Ghost of Steadford Abbey, too.
This is the second in a series of romance fiction set in an English Abbey with all the trappings of class structure and mores.... and a roguish and funny ghost named Harry who must bring true loves together. I really enjoyed this second book in the series; better than the first. I look forward to reading the next two. Anyone who wants a light, fun fiction with a strong female lead and a touch of old-fashioned romance (it really isn't much ... no "passionate" scenes at all), this is for you. I am cheering for Harry!
