Edward Grant (born Isaac Blank; 9 July 1913 – 20 July 2006) was a South African Trotskyist who spent most of his adult life in Britain. He was a founding member of the group Militant and later Socialist Appeal.
very interesting. well worth a read, was a good refresher on some stuff id heard about a bit before but know much more about now ncos this book goes into lots of detail about lots of things
Ted Grant's history of the Trotskyist movement in Britain will give you a new appreciation for the man, the ideas he fought for and the organised tendency he founded.
Though the chapters unexpectedly finish in the 1950s, with some later history in an afterword by Rob Sewell, the period from the foundation of the left-oppositionist movement in Britain to the dissolution of the Revolutionary Communist Party is filled with events, programmes and personalities.
Through periods of revolutionary advance and retreat, the small forces of Trotskyism in Britain were several times thrown off course by political mistakes of sectarianism, opportunism, Zinovievism, etc. Ted Grant however, consistently stands ahead of the rest in his clarity of perspective, orientation and methods of party building. By no means a self-aggrandising work, Grant is ready to admit mistakes and highlight the invaluable contributions other comrades made, letting the accomplishments of his tendency speak for themselves.
A clear and lucid account of British Trotskyism up to the 1950s, and Ted Grant's role in keeping the flame of Marxism alive after Trotsky's assassination.
