This book was at least as useful (maybe more so) for its general lessons about drawing and painting as for its pastel-specific instruction. The instruction on pastel is probably more useful for someone who is an advanced beginner in pastel, rather than a true novice.

Reread 3/13/2015. The book was even more useful now because after an eight-year hiatus I have been doing pastel painting again, and more of it than previously, so I can apply the pastel-specific lessons.

Greatly detailed book much of which highlights the artists strong preferences; based on years of experience. The book covers all topics, answers most questions with the exception of How-To's examples and references. Well worth the read just to view this gifted artists works.
