Broad discussions about Hawthorne's personal development as well as the direction stage acting took in the 20th century are integrated with details about the actor's extensive career.
Well done. I enjoyed reading about Hawthorne's stage career from the 1950s on. Ephemera, including letters, diary pages, programs, were very interesting to see. I liked how the author incorporated bits of biography without losing track of the main goal, which was the stage career. Learning about his South African theater years was interesting, too.
