This book was alright. I didn’t have high hopes from the first one, and this one landed where I thought it would. I have a lot of issues with it, firstly the authors grammar. I noticed a sudden shift in the middle of book one where their writing became overly flowery to the point of phrases being hard to read, not making any sense or just being really cringy. The book is still perfectly legible, but the wording really breaks your immersion.
I also had an issue with the characters from the first book. I understand that this book is about the romance between Dominick and Raeden and it’s mostly told from Dominick’s POV, but there are so many scenes where I wish we switched to either Demisius or Hamilton because once’s Dominick leaves the scene we’re just left in the dark. I would have loved to see a proper reunion between Demisius and Hamilton, and it just feels like the author kind of pushed the characters from the first book aside even though they are still incredibly important to the story. I really like Demisius and Hamilton and it’s so disappointing that they have so few scenes, let alone scenes together that would let us see their romance be reignited by Hamilton’s return. They just feel so forgotten in the story. I also have issues with the author’s handling (or in reality NOT handling) Hamilton’s return, and it just feels like they skimped out on actual character development in favor of the romance between the current main characters.
I did enjoy certain parts of this book, but there are so many things I wish had been done differently.
