This could have been called "Motorbikes and Mutant Run." Blade and two of his warriors are outside of the city of St. Louis. They are there to see what conditions are like further west from their home. What they find is a biker gang run by women. The men are second class citizens known as "studs." They have giant street rats. Creatures in the sewers, and others, all mutants to harass intruders.

One of the warriors is taken to Washinton D.C., thus the name of the book, by Communists who have control of part of the Eastern United States.

You know the drill if you have read any of these books. Loads of action. Lots of traveling across a barren wasteland and finding friend or foe. Mostly foe. The story is always evolving. Sort of soap opera style, with the characters becoming fuller and less one dimensional.

Another one in the series that I didn't read when I was young...

A lot worse than the last two volumes in the series. Extremely formulaic, melodramatic, poor dialogue, back to the last second climax...

Some of the anti-liberal rants in this one are hilarious - especially with the distance in years from when it was written. (Let's just say things didn't play out as the author expected.)

Also, the rants about pre-war legislation are getting old. "They even passed laws that prevented people from carrying a firearm in public - Can you believe it?" I think this Libertarian moralizing has been in every volume so far. We get the point.

I had to give praise to the last couple of books in the series, but after this one, I'm just not impressed.
