The future lies ahead. BUT YOU CAN PAY FOR A PREVIEW.
When her promised stardom fails to materialize, struggling actress Sarah Lassez finds solace in psychics who predict the coming of the man of her dreams. She's sure she's found him in Wilhelm, a suave hotel sous-chef from Germany. But mayhem ensues when she takes the words of the psychics over the words of her actual boyfriend and is convinced he's about to propose -- when in reality he's planning to leave the country . . . without her.
Sarah's world dissolves into a haze of credit card debt, loneliness, and a raging addiction to psychics that threatens to destroy her finances, her relationships, and her sanity. She knows she needs help. But getting it will mean confronting the fact that life is not to be controlled or predicted, and though dealing with reality isn't always easy, at least it doesn't cost $4.99 a minute.
Psychic Junkie is a true story of life and love in Los Angeles, narrated by an endearing protagonist whose search for answers will resonate with everyone who has ever tried to make sense of career, relationships, and adulthood.
I enjoyed this book. I picked it up on a whim. I have never called a physic before, I have never even had the interest too, but I want to be an actress. I am planing on moving to LA within the next year, and I figured advice from someone already doing it would be helpful. This woman is hilarious. Her writing is funny and relatable. I enjoyed hearing her story. I would recommend this to anyone with interest in physics, acting, love, addiction, or someone who just wants to hear a good story from a quirky lady.
I got this book from paperbackswap.com and when it arrived with a $1.99 clearance sticker on it, I thought it would be a waste of time...instead, it was wickedly funny, although at the end when the author finds out she has OCD and needs meds, it explained a lot! If you're like me and always wonder how people can be taken in by obvious scams, this book is for you!
I'm an online psychic, and have been for many years, and this book gave me a glimpse of what some of my repeat clients are like and the reasons why they do the things they do.
People crave answers. They want to know what's going to happen and that everything is going to be okay. When people contact psychics, more often than not they want to hear something specific and will go to reader after reader until they find one who will tell them exactly what they want to hear and will say all the other readers who told them otherwise were simply wrong.
While Sarah does a great job describing the obsession she gets with psychics, she doesn't do as great a job describing the reasons that pushed her there to begin with.
We see her meet Wilhelm and from the description we get, he's not very attractive,. his personality is fairly boring and there is no physical attraction or even. It didn't really make sense why she was so wrapped up in him and I wondered if she was actually in love with this guy, or just in love with the idea of love and wanting to settle down.
And poor Gina, her friend who seemed to be there for her any time she needed it, but who was kicked out of the apartment and quite often ignored when she had other things going on.
I'm sure there had to be more to the relationships she had, but it didn't come across in the writing.

Having gotten over a Psychic Addiction myself, when I stumbled upon this book it was a must read. I could relate to Sarah so much! I read this book in 2 and a half days, I couldn't put it down.
Wanting to step outside of familiar reading territory I picked this book up off my bookshelf. I had my doubts since this is about an aspiring actress, but honestly I really enjoyed this book! I thought there would be no way I could relate to Sarah Lassez but truth is I can't think of one woman who can't relate to her in one way or another. Her story was very interesting. At some points I was laughing so hard I had to set the book down and at other times I found myself wanting to slap her for not looking at the obvious. This is a good light read and not only is it about her addiction to psychics it's also about man trouble and following ones dreams.
I took a break from my usual reading to check out Sarah Lassez' memoir after falling in love with her from a few of my favorite indie films. I've never heard of anyone becoming addicted to psychic readings, but it made so much sense, was so relate-able in ways I wouldn't have thought, and made for both a quirky and heartbreaking read. There were times I wanted to wrap Sarah up in a blanket and protect her at all costs, and times when I just wanted to be all "honey, no..." as I read the poor decision making happen. It was funny, raw, and real, and while the writing wasn't the perfect, the heart behind the story was.
It was okay in terms of the dependence on psychics for emotional support; however, the more I read, the less I liked the author, a paranoid, boundary-less control freak. If you see it at your public library, or really cheap at a sale, the writing quality itself is okay; more than half-price, just say no.
I was originally drawn to the unusually artistic cover. Another memoir of an obsessive compulsive histrionic young woman-actress who becomes addicted to online psychics. It is fun to read about the experiences of her web of troubles that result as a consequence of her diagnosis. P.S. She doesn't know that she is histrionic.
Dark, a little sad-- and yet very real; the author somehow finds a way to introduce humor into what would otherwise have been many mishaps and not having her life go quite the way she would have liked it to.
I liked the book, but I found the author a little sad. She was so dependent on psychics and boyfriends for her self-worth. That's ironic, isn't it? To be dependent on someone else for your SELF worth.
Loved it! Such a fun read about a girl who's always calling psychics! I could relate to her never-ending questions, as well as her eventualy skepticism...Very fun and dast-paced!
