NEW YORK TIMES/USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Even though she graduated with a degree in science, Tara knew she’d never be happy doing anything other than writing. Specifically, writing love stories.

She started with a racy BDSM story and found she was not quite prepared for the unforeseen impact it would have. Nonetheless, she continued and The Submissive Series novels would go on to be both New York Times and USA Today Bestsellers. One of those, THE MASTER, was a 2017 RITA finalist for Best Erotic Romance.

Now she is focusing on new contemporary romances that allow her the freedom to write and publish on her own schedule.

oh how i wish this book were twice as long. it was a delight! and it's a romance mixed with mystery, which i am a sucker for. i do feel that a lot of things weren't explored well, it was almost too fast paced. i would have loved more interactions with elise, an explanation why tilly and keaton hadn't been in contact and MORE ANGST!

thank you netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for my honest review!

First of all. Thank you to netgalley for kindly giving me an ARC of this book. This was my first time reading a book by Tara and I have fallen in love with another authors writing.

Perilous kiss is a book of mystery, murder and love. The book starts off mysterious. Giving us a POV of a man who holds a lot of power and influence. This immediately gripped me as I wanted to know who this person was and why he was so feared.

As the book continues, we meet our main Hero. Keaton Benedict. A man who has inherited his fathers corporation along with his brothers, but is reluctant to partake in anything to do with it.

Eventually we meet our hero. Tilly Brock. Keatons childhood best friend and the daughter of one of his father ex employees. Years ago their friendship had fallen apart after her father was accused of stealing, so they hadn’t seen each other since.

This book was captivating. I ended up reading it quickly and in two sittings. The way Tara writes keeps you on edge and the fast pacing of the book makes you want to know more. I’m very excited to see how the second book goes.

I did find when reading the books, there were a lot of spelling mistakes. It may be because I have an advanced copy. But it was a lot more than I would usually see. Or words were missing in the middle of a sentence.

First Impressions
Perilous Kiss is the first book in the newest series by Tara Sue Me. This is an author I have always enjoyed but this was also my first time reading one of her non BDSM books. I was really intrigued by this series though as it had such an intriguing premise. Had a south soap opera feel to the theme. So if you loved the Bourbon Kings from JR Ward, than I highly recommend this as it had a similar vibe to it but with more romance focused in it. I really adored Perilous Kiss and I enjoyed that the relationship conflict was kept on the down low. There is such great family vibes to the story and what a great mystery, I am so fascinated by the villain that is present throughout this book and the whole series and very curious to see what will happen plot wise with this story.

First Line
The man they called King stopped walking and took a deep breath.

Summary
Perilous Kiss is a second chance romance. We have our hero, who is the youngest son, Keaton, and when the woman he loved in high school returns home and when her life is put in danger he knows he will do anything he can to protect his girl, Tilly. When two of her co workers are murdered, he goes all protective mode on his girl. Tilly, is independent and strong and willing to stand on her own. But when it shows that her life is in danger, she caves under the pressure and admits that Keaton and his family would be the best form of protection. But there are more than one way to be in danger, and when Keaton ends up blackmailed, he will have to make some difficult decisions to stand against manipulation.

What I Loved
Perilous Kiss I really enjoyed this one. Its not a perfect read and not as good as her BDSM books, however, I really loved the premise of the story but the romance aspects just felt a bit off for me so I was slightly disappointed out of the romance a bit. Their relationship just felt too rushed. Even though I prefer low angst, it just felt like nothing got resolved in a relatable way. It was just skipped over very quickly. I did love the family connections and I love our hero. He is so wonderful. Strong and protective but still so respectful of the heroine and wanting her to find her own place in town. I had a blast with the mystery plot that was implemented. I am so curious to see about this King character and how he connects to the Benedict family and what will evolve in future books. I am not sure why the blackmail plot was put in, but it did add in some extra conflict for the couple and this family. I think though seeing this sub plot adding to the drama of the theme that it feels like the author was going for here to have it have that southern soap opera vibe. I really enjoyed the southern feel to the story and it definitely delivers strongly on the atmospheric moments.

Overall View
I found Perilous Kiss to be a thrilling and atmospheric moment filled romance that delivered some sincere emotion and strongly executed story to get behind with!

PERILOUS KISS is the first instalment in Tara Sue Me’s contemporary, adult BENEDICT BROTHERS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the Benedict brothers: Keaton, Knox and Kipling. This is Keaton Benedict, and Tilly Brock’s story line.

NOTE: PERILOUS KISS was originally released as DARKEST NIGHT (Sons of Broad 1) by the author writing as Tara Thomas.

Told from dual omniscient third person perspectives, and first person Jade PERILOUS KISS follows the second chance, of a sorts, between our story line couple. Eight years earlier, Tilly and her family were excommunicated from the Benedict Corporation, in the wake of accusations of embezzlement against Tilly’s father. Fast forward to present day, Tilly has returned to Charleston in an effort to uncover the truth but never expected to come face to face with the boy she once loved. Someone has taken aim at our story line couple, taking down anyone connected to , or who has crossed their paths. As Tilly and Keaton’s relationships continues to grow, someone else has set their sights on our story line hero, with the intention of gaining control, in more ways than one. What ensues is the rekindling relationship and rebuilding friendship between Keaton and Tilly, and the potential fall-out as the threats against the Benedict brothers begins to collect collateral damages.

The world building focuses on sins of the past. Several people connected to both Tilly and Keaton will become the victims of a one person’s need for vengeance, and another person’s desire to power and control.

The relationship between Tilly and Keaton is one of second chances. Childhood friends destroyed by accusations of embezzlement and fraud, Keaton and Tilly will be pulled apart by secrets and lies, and the madness of one man determined to take it all. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the se of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Keaton’s brothers Knox and Kipling, as well as Tilly’s former best friend Elise, officer Alyssa Adams, attorney Bea Jacobs, and shelter kid Jade. The requisite evil has many faces.

PERILOUS KISS is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, greed and obsession, forgiveness and love. The fast paced, character driven premise is intriguing and entertaining; the romance is sensual and seductive; the characters are determined and energetic. PERILOUS KISS ends on a bit of a cliff hanger-there is yet to be a resolution to the ongoing conflict.

As an author myself, I try to show fellow authors the courtesy of finishing their novel so that I can give a fair review of the entire work and not just a portion of it; however, I had to force myself to finish shortly after I reached the halfway point. Except for grammar errors, which I'll get to in a moment, the story didn't start off badly, but it soon became clear that the author knows next to nothing about police procedures and didn't bother to research the topic. Even I know that Tilly and Keaton wouldn't have been allowed into the crime scene so soon, especially when fingerprinting hadn't even been done. The police actions just got more ludicrous as the book continued. In addition, the murders made no sense. It seemed that they were thrown in just to keep the plot going, but it was never made clear as to why those women were chosen. The secondary characters, Elise in particular, were nothing more than stereotypes. And it seemed that Keaton acted in the most stupid ways possible. I won't go into details because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who decides to read this book.

In addition to the weaknesses outlined above, the book was badly in need of good editing. There were so many sentences that had words missing. It was as if Ms. Me's brain was outpacing her fingers as she typed, and she never bothered to look over what she'd just written. Words were misspelled. In some cases it was most likely a typing error. I assume Ms. Me meant the Tilly's climax was impending and not impeding, for instance. Also, Ms. Me needs to brush up on verb usage. The correct wording should have been "have gone," not "have went."

In short, I will not be reading more books by this author.

Perilous Kiss is the first book in the Benedict Brothers series. A book that is full of secrets, power, wealth, success, blackmail, murder, romance and love! I was totally captivated from the beginning, frozen to my seat, I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t want to. I loved the intensity, the intrigue, and the secrets that were revealed at a pace that held me in their grasp, as the story swept me away.

This is Keaton Benedict and Tilly Brock’s story, two close friends that had grown up together. Who lived in the same neighborhood and gone to the same schools. Hell, at one point, Tilly actually thought she was in love with him. Of course, that was before her father was accused of embezzling from Keaton’s dad. And her family moved away.

Now Tilly’s is back in the town she never thought she would ever return to, and runs into Keaton when he comes into a bar that she is working as a waitress at. These two seem to be made for each other, as they quickly make up for lost time and surrender to their sizzling chemistry. But there is danger lurking in the shadows. Secrets coming to light. Murders all around them. And Blackmail trying to push them apart. And the more they uncover the more dangerous it appeared for them all.

“He needed her to be safe and at that moment, he knew he’d give up his own life to keep her that way.”

Will Keaton be able focus on their future and keeping Tilly safe? Or will he lose her? You will need to need to read to find out. Loved this fantastic new series! Can not wait for the next book!

Received an early copy and this is my honest review.

Perilous Kiss is the first book in The Benedict Brothers trilogy by Tara Sue Me. This book is a rewritten, revised, and reedited version of Darkest Night in The Sons of Broad series. The series is about the Benedict brothers, who inherited a shipping empire in Charleston, South Carolina. Each book is about one of the three brothers, while addressing an overarching mystery throughout the three books. This book is about Keaton Benedict and his childhood best friend, Tilly Brock. The two had been inseparable until Tilly's father was accused of embezzling from Keaton's father when they were fourteen.. Eight years later, Tilly moved back to Charleston and Keaton reconnected with her. They worked together to find out what really happened between their families. Danger and murder surrounded them, and everything they uncovered seemed to raise more questions than answers.

I have read books by this author in the past, but this book was quite a surprise. In this author's words, she usually writes "pantsers,' but this series is romantic suspense. I really enjoyed this easy read. I was entertained from the first page. It was a second chance, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, he falls first, protective alpha-male novel. I loved the banter between the brothers, the suspense created by the danger the characters faced, the spicy chemistry between the lovers, and the intrigue created by the many unaswered questions. At the beginning of the story, Tilly hated Keaton for never having contacted her after she moved away. Conversely, Keaton was immediately thrilled to see Tilly. I thought that Tilly let him off the hook a little too quickly, but otherwise their relationship made sense. The author dropped breadcrumbs for a mystery that is completely unclear in this novel, but I believe will begin to make sense as the series continues. This created intrigue, not frustration. Some immediate concerns are resolved during this book, especially those that threaten the relationship that was developing between the main characters. This was suffucient for this book to have a satisfactory HEA while still leaving many questions unanswered. While not shocking enough to be called a cliffhanger, these unresolved questions are a defininte hook for the next book in the series, Seductive Lies. Im certainly going to keep reading! I recommend this book for readers of romantic suspense, especially fans of Rebecca Zanetti,Jayne Ann Krentz, and Linda Howard. I am voluntarily submitting this honest rewview after reading an advanced complementary copy of this book thanks to Netgalley and Books Go Social.

When Tilly comes back to town, Keaton cannot hide how he feels for her, no matter how hard he tries.
Having known each other since childhood, Tilly too has feelings for Keaton.
Things turn sinister when somebody is trying to damage Keaton's family and will stop at nothing. Including getting to Tilly first.
What I love about this book is the writing style, the characters are well rounded and the fact that it is a classic friends-to-lovers trope, with a thriller type vein running through it.
There is some spice in this book too, so if that is your thing then perfect. It has the danger element, the will they - won't they confess their feelings for each other vibe going on.
It is a quick read, about 280 pages so you can read this in an evening.
You will turn the pages because like most friends to lovers or similar trop it does keep you going.
What I didn't like about the book. Nothing.
My only missing element was not knowing why Keaton had not decided to keep in touch with Tilly, we didn't get to read a lot about that part of their lives the 8 years that they were separated. However, it isn't really too detracting from the actual story.
This is my first book by the author and I will search out some of her other books.
I did enjoy it and i would recommend it.

Tilly Brock is working her way through school at a gentleman’s club as a waitress. Her family was wealthy but her father was accused of embezzlement and they lost everything. Keaton Benedict is very rich and has just graduated college. His brothers run Benedict Industries, an export business, and expect him to join them now. He goes out celebrating and finds Tilly, his best friend from when they were younger. It was his family’s company her father was accused of stealing from.
Someone is killing people from Tilly’s work and they make it known she’s next. After her apartment is trashed, Keaton moves her into the Benedict mansion. They also have another guest, Tilly’s best friend from childhood Elise. But Elise isn’t the same girl she grew up with. She wants Keaton and she’ll do anything to get him. With someone trying to take the Benedict’s down, Tilly being in danger, and Keaton being blackmailed, their life is one surprise after another. Can they figure everything out and still be together or will Keaton lose Tilly after he’s just found her again?
Suspense. Sex. Surprises. Cliffhanger. Great story with intriguing characters and mystery.

Such a lovely, mysterious and dangerous start to this series.

Keaton and Tilly (Jade) saw each other every day for eight years when they were young. Then Tilly had to move away because her father was blamed for laundering money from Keaton’s dad who he worked for. Keaton left for school and they didn’t see each other for another eight years. Why didn’t he ever try and find her? Now his older brother Kipling has been in touch with her and needs to see her. She’s been back in town after horrendous years and is trying to start over. Keaton can never forget the perilous kiss they had years ago. Tilly has always had a crush on Keaton, but she’s just got to let it go. Keaton finds out a lot he didn’t know while he was at school. Boy do they have a big web to unweave. After meeting with the two of them Keaton takes Tilly to her job as a waitress at a bar to pick up her check, but something’s not right. From then on it becomes very dangerous to more people than them. There’s also a side character Jade (Kaja) who you won’t believe who it is. Also, among all the danger, you can absorb all the steam and love off the pages. You get left hanging in the end to move onto another brother, Knox.

I am a long time Tara Sue Me fan so I knew going in the Perilous Kiss would be entertaining. Although not her usual genre but like her other books the story was well crafted with the addition of plenty of mystery and suspense. There's a war being waged on the Benedict brothers and it's coming from two different fronts. It includes murder, intimidation, blackmail threats and a scheming, conniving houseguest. Keaton Benedict and Tilly Brock spent much of their younger years together as friends and schoolmates until scandal forced her family to leave Charleston. Now eight years later, they reconnect and it's apparent their feelings really haven't changed. As the bodycount rises, the Benedicts become both victims and suspects. The family scrambles to unravel the mysteryand discover who's pulling the strings. A dramatic confrontation results in tragic consequences but relieves some of the pressure on Keaton and Tilly. I am really looking forward to Knox's story. It should prove very interesting given the little we've already learned.

A lady catches Keaton’s eye and he knows her from somewhere. When he finally sees her up close it’s Tilly, his old best friend that has to move away because her father was caught stealing from Keaton’s dad.

I took a while to really start this book. I read a couple pages then took a break and read some more but last night I really gave it a chance and I loved it! Wish I started it sooner since I could not put it down.

I really can’t wait to find out more about the brothers and about Kaja. I already have some guesses but can’t wait to see what Tara writes.

I love how the thriller aspect was added to this book and I was trying to solve the mystery the whole time. Perilous Kiss gives the mystery, murder and love vibes with some spicy scenes. Definitely hope I get to read the other books in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley EARC! As always, my review is my opinion and thoughts.

I wish it was longer! The story revolves around two childhood friends that are brought back into each others lives under dire circumstances. I know the author is setting up the story to continue in the rest of the series, but the story felt rushed with so much information crammed in.

I especially enjoyed Jade's POV, and she was the character that actually kept my attention throughout the book. I received an early copy from NetGalley, and am hoping all of the edits will be fixed by the time it publishes, cuz they were extremely distracting and made it hard to focus on the storyline.

I'm looking forward to the other brothers getting their own stories and watching the fallout of their fathers choices unfold. I've always enjoyed other books by this author, so I'm hoping this was a one-off for me.

There is something to be said for the re-published series. I already know that I will be getting more of the characters I love. It makes waiting for release a little easier. That said, August cannot get here soon enough. I may or may not have already pre-ordered it ;) I would be lying if I said I didn't go looking for the old editions. I have so many theories and questions. Who is King? Who/how is Jade connected to it all? How much does the oldest brother know/not know? Does he suspect? What really happened with Tilly's dad?
Keaton & Tilly's story is so good. Watching their relationship rekindle and develop was *cheff's kiss*. While I am SO ready to see the other two brothers' stories, I really hope to see more of Keaton & Tilly in future books.

Tara Sue Me mystery writer

Tara Sue Me I have read all your books up till this series and I have to say that I was surprised you were dipping your pen into the mysteries well. I know what a wonderful storyteller you are but this was a stretch for you ! I can honestly say I Loved it!!!! All your characters and crazy layers of plots and twists were exactly what I would need to have in a great mystery novel! The Benedict brothers have a whole lot in store for us they are not only sexy rich and funny but they will fight to the end to keep their loved ones safe! I loved Keaton and Tilly! We get the basics on the two other brothers here but I bet their stories and secrets will be just as exciting and mysterious! I can’t wait!!!!

This story is absolutely addictive! As the first book in the Benedict Brothers series, it had me captivated from the start. It's packed with secrets, romance, and thrilling murder mysteries. Keaton and Tilly's story is intense, and I couldn't put the book down. The mix of suspense and steamy scenes kept me on the edge of my seat. I devoured it in one sitting and now I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment. The characters are well-developed, and the friends-to-lovers dynamic with a twist of suspense is a winning combination. Tara's writing style is fantastic. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking an exciting read!

The first book in the Benedict Brothers series has me hooked! I was captivated by Keaton’s and Tilly’s story right from the beginning. I loved it. They were childhood friends who lost touch when her family moved away from Charleston. They fell right into a sweet relationship as soon as she came back into his life. I enjoyed the three brother’s relationship, as well. The plot was so intriguing and well written. There’s blackmail, murder, secrets, drama, suspense and romance. I can’t wait to read Seductive Lies which is Knox’s and Bea’s story. *this was a complimentary copy and this is my honest review*

Keaton and Tilly were childhood friends and, after 8 years apart, they seemed to pick up right where they left off (and then some).

This book took you on a JOURNEY. It was a romance, a mystery, had some mafia/crime family vibes, and laid the groundwork for a really interesting story. By the “end” of this book, though, many questions were left unanswered (presumably to pick up in a second book).

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Tara Sue Me for the ARC of this book!

Very Different and Original Storyline.

Excellent suspense and great characters drive this story. I like the way the author, Tara Sue Me, did her chapters, interspersing Jade's point of view or inner thoughts throughout the book. Thank goodness there is an HEA, but not a complete resolution of all the loose ends. They will continue on with the books to follow about the other two brothers' stories. I can't wait for those.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

If you enjoy an action-packed, quick read romantic mystery, this is your book.

The youngest Benedict brother’s story is a fast paced (maybe a bit too much), action-packed romance mixed with mystery. It keeps you on edge, you never get bored because something always happens that stirs the water. It was a quick read, I devoured it in a few hours. I wish it was longer, so the story could unfold more. Overall, I liked it and recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of the book.

Tilly and Keaton were friends growing up, but years have passed and they are face to face again. There is definitely chemistry and attraction between them from the start. I loved seeing them reconnect and really explore their feelings for each other. I also love the added suspense with this story.

This was a shorter story and I wish it was a little bit longer given the suspense and mystery to it. I wanted more of that and it all just kind of happened quickly and felt rushed at times to me.

If you’re looking for a childhood friends to lovers, romantic suspense check this out.

Keaton is the youngest brother of the Benedict family empire. He and Tilly had been best friends as children, but then her father was . accused of embezzlement and the family moved away. Now Tilly is back due to her mother's death and the two reunite due to a string of murders. Then there's Jade, an orphan taken in by King and trained to be an assassin. The Benedicts are her targets. And who is King and why is he determined to bring down the family. This can be read as a standalone but there are many unresolved issues. Really good read!

Tilly left Charleston eight years ago when her father was charged with embezzling from the firm he worked at. Kenton who grew up with Tilly still has not gotten over her sudden disappearance and is surprised when he finds out from his brother that she will be back working for the firm. Then he begins to start up with Tilley and make it so she will not leave once again. A good story but at times I was thrown off by Kenton don’t know if it was me it just felt off and then it or his character would come back Overall a good story. I can't say that the book is bad, but it's not good either. The story is cliche, there are elements of thriller and love. I read it in a few hours and I believe I will forget it. Tara Sue Me is not an unknown author to me, I have read several of her books, but this one left me indifferent. I'm sorry, maybe someone will like it more than me.

Friends since childhood and after almost a decade apart, Keaton and Tilly reconnect and still feel the pull of attraction to each other. Now Tilly is in danger because a person or persons unknown (for now) want to hurt the Benedict's.

Fast paced with more 'dangling' story lines than I like, I'm sure these will be resolved in the books about the other brothers.

I look forward to getting resolution to some of the questions I have and to read more about the other brothers Benedict.

Thank you to NetGalley, Tara Sue Me and The Publisher for giving me the opportunity to receive an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I was so excited to read this book as it was my first by Tara Sue Me and boy did it not disappoint! It was a romance book with a mystery and deceit. At times it seemed to rush a little but it kept my attention and I enjoyed the story. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Tara Sue Me.

Editing entirely missing

The story itself was okay but the editing was no where to be seen. I've never read a book with so many errors. Words omitted, misspelled and grammar made reading it very aggravating. I never write reviews but thought you should know.
