I read the author's other book, Promoted with Tenure, prior to reading this one, and I have to admit that I liked that one much better, though this was his debut, so it seems as though he's really honed his talent since, which is awesome!

I found Asher's character really frustrating at times, to the point of being annoyed with him and wanting to skim through scenes rather than actually read them, and it almost came across like he really should not have been allowed to keep performing his job. The case itself seemed to really take a back seat to the drama happening in Asher's life, and while I know it can't all be about the case in these types of books and you need to know what the characters are going through, it needs to be at least a 50/50 balance, IMO, if the case isn't going to be the predominant focus. The "personal" scenes also got incredibly repetitive, which also led to the aforementioned desire to skim.

However, the case itself was incredibly interesting to me, and those chapters were absolutely my favorite. I would read some bits twice, not because I was confused or didn't understand but rather because I was absolutely determined to figure out how everything connected.

Even though I didn't like this one as much, it was still a decent read with a satisfying ending, and after really enjoying Promoted with Tenure, I know I'm going to read more by this author. (Plus, the NOLA setting is one of my faves, and I always love seeing mysteries/thrillers set in that area!)

2.5 stars raised to 3 because of a twist that I absolutely did not see coming

The main characters in the story are detective Asher Huxley and his partner Cassandra, who are called to what looks like a murder suicide by gun, but the man is posed just a bit too stiffly for reality. The woman is on the bed face down and naked, but the man is sitting fully dressed on a chair beside the bed, with both his hands on the armrests, whilst the gun is on the floor below his hand. It is obviously staged, as shooting yourself doesn’t really allow for your hand to be perfectly aligned on an armrest of a chair! Asher’s boss Pierre is on his case, as his results have not been great recently and he is told to solve it or lose his job – bit harsh and illegal! Cassandra knows her partner is married to Sofia, a marine ecology scientist, but seems to get her jollies by getting up close and personal with Asher. Asher also has his own issues which are driving a huge wedge into his marriage, suffering from severe anxiety and seeing a therapist. The attacks could be linked to what he has seen in his years in forensics and front line policing, but also from the death of his mother and then being deserted by his father! Certainly by the way he is being portrayed, he definitely shouldn’t be still working until he has this a lot more under control!

It is quite a dark storyline, with a serial killer who is targeting couples who are cheating on their loved ones. The first dead couple were both married, just not to each other! The killer leaves a very distinct and old handgun at the scene, a rare Colt M1911 handgun, with the serial number removed. Asher seems to have a better relationship with Cassandra than his wife, as well as his friend Xavier, who works forensics and even the medical examiner Agnes, but not so much with his therapist Justin. Cassandra definitely makes it obvious that she wants into Asher’s pants, but he just seems not to even notice at times, at others he dreams about having sex with her. He and his wife aren’t the best at communicating with each other, with him resenting her trying to even help him with his issues. When his father turns up suddenly at his door, after decades of ignoring him, he doesn’t want to speak to him. Everyone tells him he should at least find out why his father has turned up now and what he can tell him about his mother’s death. As the number of victims grows, a letter comes in from the killer, making it into a game and the killer is taunting him! Pressures from his boss, an indifferent wife and a therapist who seems to be on his wife’s side more than his, life is just getting harder. A definite shocker of a twist at the end and some serious suggestions that his own estranged father is the prime suspect, sees him pulled off the case. The killer needs stopping, but now Asher has his own wife disappearing on him and acting strangely. Temptation is being thrown in his face at every turn by Cassandra. A serial killer in New Orleans is making a joke of the police force and Asher is a damaged man, who may not be up to the job as a detective, as his attacks intensify and his marriage is falling apart. A strange investigative story, with a twisted killer, who picks their victims carefully and has a certain pair in mind for the finale. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This marks the first book by this author, KB Fisher, that I have had the pleasure of reading. My typical preferences include works by Harlan Coben, Lee Child, Tom Clancy, Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Karin Slaughter, Clive Cussler, Preston W Child, and Judah Lamb—the latter two being recent discoveries. I am drawn to narratives that engage me quickly and tend to avoid those with slow beginnings. As a Christian life coach, pastor, cancer motivational speaker, and forensic psychologist, I have a particular interest in the genre focused on serial killers.

This novel presents a compelling and enthralling serial killer mystery. Its engaging and immersive narrative style, coupled with KB Fisher's smooth prose, makes for an enjoyable reading experience. He vividly portrays the setting of New Orleans, allowing readers to visualize the scenes he crafts easily. I highly recommend this book to enthusiasts of serial killer narratives, thrillers, and psychological suspense.

The storyline is notably dark, centering on a serial killer who targets couples engaged in infidelity. This peculiar investigative tale features a twisted antagonist who meticulously selects victims, culminating in a carefully planned finale. The mystery is captivating, filled with unexpected twists and red herrings. However, I found the primary misdirection somewhat transparent, diminishing its impact for me. What truly enhanced my experience was the consistently strong and immersive narration, which ultimately elevated my rating to four stars. The conclusion was astonishing and entirely unforeseen, leaving me eager to explore the other two works by this author. It is a well-written and accessible read.

Set against the atmospheric backdrop of New Orleans, Admit Two introduces Ash, a senior detective grappling with debilitating anxiety, a crumbling marriage, and a flirtatious partner, Cassandra. While Ash’s mental health challenges arguably make him an unlikely candidate for his role, his reputation for solving cases keeps him in play. His wife, Sophia, is portrayed with little warmth—her abrasive nature adds tension but makes her difficult to empathize with.

The mystery itself is engaging, peppered with twists and red herrings. However, the central misdirection was disappointingly transparent, and Ash’s fixation on a single suspect felt more like tunnel vision than seasoned detective work. His premature conclusion of the case came across as unprofessional, though the story’s pacing kept me invested throughout.

The climactic showdown was undermined by a character inexplicably ignoring another’s presence—an oversight that pulled me out of the moment. And while the final lines aimed for impact, Ash’s reaction struck me as implausible, leaving a faint sense of disappointment as the story closed.
What elevated the experience was the narration—consistently strong and immersive. It’s what tipped my rating up to 4 stars rather than down to 3.

Oh! My! Stars! What an ending! I didn't see that coming at all. This is a very engaging, captivating, serial killer mystery. It is engaging, captivating, engrossing, and crazy! Mr. Fisher's writing style is easy to read and flows smoothly. He describes the setting of New Orleans so well that it is easy to picture the scenes he is creating. I recommend this book for fans of serial killer stories, thrillers, and psychological thrillers. This is the first book by Mr. Fisher that I have read, but it won't be the last.

Admit Two is a captivating and intriguing fast-paced read. The story line drew me in and kept me interested throughout. Being from the South, the fact that this book was set in New Orleans is one of the things that drew me to it in the beginning, and the author did not disappoint. There were spot on mentions of many areas of the city which contributed to my enjoyment of the story. The dynamic between Asher, Sofia and Cassandra was interesting and brought in a bit of focus on dealing with anxiety while on the job as well as having a ‘work wife/husband’. All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I received an ARC for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Great book. Okay, I get putting “N’awlins” in for the touristy aspect although no local says it.

*****But the fact that Ash ATE the cruller Cass gave him and “chuckled” kinda ruined the vibe. Hell, Cass held a gun to his head, mocked him, mamby pambied his ass ……He should have felt revulsion. Would’ve been better for her to have died at the scene and then he could start Book 2 with all new players.
I bought this myself and am leaving my own review. I was giving it 4+ stars until the last scene. I’ll read the next book if there is a follow up.

Wow, what an unexpected ride. This Author did a bang up job with the plot twist, and the Characters he molded into perfection. I have read many thrillers, and this one by far is the best. Didn't see it all coming. This book already had me at New Orleans Louisiana. I am from South East Louisiana. Does it really rain that much in New Orleans though 🤔? This is worth more than 5 stars. Anxious to read the other two books by this author. Highly recommend!

3.5 rounded up. Originally I was gonna give 3 stars to this book because I hated almost every character. But I recognize that I hate them because I’m enjoying the story, not because they’re poorly written. I was hooked on this one despite wanting to slap everyone. Still a little confused on one or two things at the end but overall it was enjoyable.

Thank you for the giveaway!

As a new reader of this author I was impressed with how quickly I was impressed in this case! I enjoyed figuring out the details along with the detectives. Will Asher's personal life affect his focus and objectivity?...

Really good read. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great story with some fascinating characters.
Loved the New Orleans background. I have visited New Orleans on one of my trips to the US and could just hear the unique dialog in the book narrative, remembered the sights and could almost smell and taste the wonderful food aromas.
The book follows an investigation into what appear like murder/suicides but have all the hallmarks of a serial killer at work, and what a cunning, vengeful person they turn out to be. And all the victims are linked by their illicit, adulterous affairs.
The lead investigator Asher is a complex character fighting against anxiety, panic attacks, a disintegrating marriage he is fighting to hold together and a willing, seductive partner, Cassandra. His good friend and tech officer Xavier and the quirky chief medical examiner, Agnes appear better allies than his therapist Justin.
As the case develops, Asher with all his issues, is thrown a curve ball when his long absent father makes a sudden unannounced appearance and weapons left at the scene make him look like the chief suspect. If Asher isn't under enough pressure his boss Pierre is constantly threatening him with his job to solve the growing case list.
And as the plot unravels, as you might expect, a major plot twist pops up. (no spoilers).
Really good book which I would thoroughly recommend to readers of this genera.
Come on y'all have a read, N'orlens is waitin'. .

This is a really intriguing mystery and although dark, I really enjoyed the mystery and the solving of it. The main male character, a police detective, suffered from severe anxiety attacks and I found that very distracting. He didn’t seem really capable in his job, partially due to this, and he seemed to be sabotaging his marriage unnecessarily as well. I have empathy for people with depression and anxiety, since I’ve suffered with these in the past, as have people in my family, but it felt inauthentic and unnecessary to the story. The police workings didn’t seem as realistic as I’d like, but the New Orleans setting rang true and was a very enjoyable part of the story. The best part of the story was the crimes, although violent, and figuring out what was going on. To me, that was a pretty masterful mystery and made my reading of the book quite enjoyable, despite the things that I didn’t enjoy as much. I was provided a copy of the book, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

4.5*. I kind of had a hard time with this one just because Ash grated my last nerve. I know if I was Pierre I probably would have found a way to get rid of him. shew. He was so cocky and arrogant. Just his whole attitude sometimes really grated. BUT the rest of the story overall, was really good. I knew the one person was bad. I knew from the start. Something was just off about them from the get go. Trying too hard I think. But it made for an interesting storyline. The ending i knew was coming. That was left hanging and I had a feeling they'd be back. Nice set up for a book 2 if one is coming. Makes me curious if things are going to happen. Not bad

Loved it!

Being from south Louisiana it was such a confort to read this intriguing mystery with a taste of home. What an excellent portrayal of what it is like to battle with anxiety and still try to function in your world. It felt so real, as someone who has crippling anxiety it was nice to see it done right. Love that I didn't figure that last little twist. This author is now on my automatic buy list hope to see more of this character.

Asher Hurley is the lead detective in a double homicide. He's been told to solve it or be fired. His partner, Cassandr and his wife Sophia don't get along, which adds more stress to his job. Then his estranged father turns up out of the blue and wants to talk to him. As if he doesn't have anything else going on. This is a detailed story, lots of New Orleans things through put the book. An excellent murder story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed this book and story. The homicide detective partners have a great relationship, while the male partner is having marital struggles. They are trying to solve the murders of "cheating" spouses, but are struggling to tie things together. Their Chief is all over them to make progress towards an arrest and is threatening them to boot. Ultimately, it boils down to you really know everyone within your sphere of influence.

This is a police procedural story. Asher's life is falling apart and this affects his focus on the case. The case also becomes personal when the prime suspect happens to be a relative. The story is a slow read, descriptive, and dialogue-driven.
