Not Yours #2

If I Were Yours

The man I love and the man I need. Can I have them both?

Saying goodbye to Markus at the airport is bittersweet. Three months together gone in the blink of an eye. Now we're back to a routine dictated by his busy career.

But I won't be alone. He's handing me over to his best friend, Grigory Volkov—the man who awakens a pulsing desire to submit within my core, and the man who has hurt me countless times.

Slowly, my trust grows as I give in to the steady current of his overbearing control. But as I grow closer to Grigory, I drift away from Markus, and soon I'm caught between my instinctual need for one man and my love for the other.

Age gap, why choose, BDSM romance that delves deep into the raw emotions of an MfM Dom/sub dynamic.
This book contains explicit sexual content, BDSM scenes, and dubious consent. It is not meant to depict a healthy BDSM dynamic, but rather explore what happens when things go wrong. It is a very emotional read. See full trigger warning list on author website.

Ella Jacobs writes dark and kinky romance. Her books all center around Dom/sub dynamics, ranging from BDSM relationships with light dub con to pitch-black captor/captive stories with Stockholm syndrome and heavy non con.

What all her stories have in common is the emotional depth that makes them feel very raw and real. They will pull at all your heartstrings, maybe gut you and shock you, and take you through the emotional wringer.

Ella lives in Northern Europe, where she has been part of the BDSM community for many years. She lives her own age-gap romance with a stern, loving Dominant, who is always ready for some character analysis and rarely gets jealous when she falls in love with her fictional men.

Besides writing, Ella loves to play music and travel.

After thoroughly enjoying the first book in this series I’m sad to say this one fell entirely flat for me. First and foremost, Clara was a complete disaster in this book. She’s entirely too dependent and needy. I’m not talking about the negotiated dynamics of a power exchange. I’m not talking about how people like to believe submissives are “weak.” I’m talking about the fact that this woman might truly be incompetent or incapacitated. I might question her legal ability to even enter into a power exchange. She literally cannot function day to day without either of these men controlling her every action. She doesn’t eat, sleep, or complete any activity of daily living without their intervention or encouragement. She’s an emotional wreck. For what reason? It’s really hard to say, we don’t get much other than the circular explanation that she’s an emotional wreck because she’s an emotional wreck and can’t manage her feelings. That didn’t come through at all in the first book. She had some semblance of agency and free will. It became so repetitive and boring I had to push myself to get through to the end. How many more emotional breakdowns can she have before you just give up on this story? The plot just circled, and circled, and circled, progressing nowhere until the very end. It felt like reading the exact same story as the first book. Her feelings for Grigory are complicated. Their dynamic is complicated. They circle each other taking one step forward and three steps back. Markus is the most emotionally mature of all three. Rinse and repeat. We get it. But that’s it. There’s nothing else here. Just Clara crying all the time and not able to function because she can’t handle her feelings. Having some chapters from Markus’ POV helped anchor this story a bit because he understands both Clara and Grigory very well, but it wasn’t enough to save this story. Truthfully, this doesn’t need a third book. It needed a second book that properly advanced and concluded the story. Not sure we’re going to get anything in the third other than continued redundancy. It’s a shame because the story has wonderful potential, but a strong developmental editor is needed here to bring it along.

I only completed it for my reading goal I would have dnf'ed it but I was already more than half way through this wasn't bad but just not my taste, way too sweet like literally it was really really sweet not even black just like light grey

edit: uhm what the heck? why did I say it was light grey? I must have been on a super dark romance spree but I mean this book deals with heavy themes like major age gap so be careful while reading this personally for me it was a grey read but it can be darker for many people

After Not Yours To Keep,i was left with so many conflicting feelings, and so many questions.
I knew i needed more, and i was hoping for answers to how they’d make this dynamic work.
So when i got the ARC of If I Were Yours,i couldn’t wait to find out what would happen.

What i got was a shift in that dynamic, and it was as conflicting as it was in the first book.
Not for the same reasons,though…..
I’m starting to like Grigory now that i know him better.
What he went through with his last sub scarred him,and i see where his reluctance comes from.
But he’s all in….he takes responsibility, and he takes care of Clara as best as he can.
It’s good for both to spend those weeks together.

At the same time,i’m starting to like Markus less.
For a Dom claiming to love his sub,he doesn’t give her what she needs from him.
In fact,he’s counting on Grigory to fill the gap he’s leaving….and it hurts Clara.

She’s caught between these two dominant men,but the further they get,the more conflicted she grows.
She needs what Grigory gives her,but at the same time, she feels like they’re betraying Markus.
Even though he gave them his blessing….it doesn’t feel good.
Because she can feel Markus retreating, and she feels responsible.
Her feelings for Grigory are growing, and she feels they’ve grown closer.
Is that causing Markus’retreating?
Are they hurting him, even though they don’t want to?
And then these men throw her another curveball….or two.

Leaving me conflicted,yet again!
Because that cliffhanger may leave Clara in a good place after everything she’s been through….
But i fear that Clara,Grigory and Markus still have a long way to go.
And i need to find out what will happen to this troubled trio!

This is an extremely complicated book. I scanned some other reviews and I get the frustrations from the other readers-I really do. But I don’t necessarily agree with the complaints. This book feels extremely private-like I’m glimpsing something that isn’t meant for public consumption. Like I’m witnessing a real, private relationship unfold. So it’s not perfect, it’s not going to go at the pace that I, the reader, want. Clara is frustratingly lost, Gregory is stubborn and Markus is unsure what’s even going on. These 3 characters are going in circles around each other-that can be frustrating but the more they go in circles, the more I understood why they kept doing the same thing over and over. And that’s what kept me reading. Part of the circling has to do with them as artists-I’ve always seen artists as more emotional people so Clara pouring herself into music while trying to maintain her complicated relationships is interesting to watch unfold.

Gregory is one the few true sadist Doms I’ve ever encountered in BDSM books-up on the same pedestal as Father Soren in the Original Sinners series. And even though he’s older than Markus-it’s Markus who ends up making the correct (in this moment) decision for everyone involved. Markus does put his career ahead of Clara-which is a completely realistic thing to do-but is frustrating in a fictional book. I think Markus does love Clara and he loves her enough to know that she will be okay in Gregory’s hands. She might even do better so he’s okay to a point, in giving her to him. The final scenes in the book took my breath away in a way that hasn’t happened in a long time and I was actually physically tired when I finished the book. I eagerly await the final book of the trilogy because I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen with this trio or if in the end…it’ll just be two standing together after all.

Let’s start this review by saying you definitely need to read the first book before starting this one. Grigory had me questioning all of his actions when starting this book because of everything he put Clara & basically me through at the end of the last book. I really was feeling all the emotions Clara was feeling when it came to the new dynamic between the three of them, I would find myself crying for them. Clara is a submissive through and through, so when she is put between two dominant men of course she is going to have a pull towards the one she spends the most time with & connects with on a new level. Now I won’t lie my heart broke for Markus, I know he had a lot going on with his career but I kept feeling like he really pushed her away because he didn’t make time for her like he should have. I now understand after reading the entire book that Clara belonged with Grigory, he gave her something Markus couldn’t. This book is about a Dominant sharing his submissive with another Dominant, so he knows she is cared for when he is out on tour but she starts to feel something for her new Dom that can’t just go away. Now her new Dom has a certain way of handling things & it just so happens to be exactly what she needs as a submissive. Definitely read trigger warnings because Grigory is a sadist & he can get a little rough, also it is mainly focused on BDSM. I highly recommend reading this book & the one before it if you’re a fan of BDSM!

Absolutely, irrevocably raw. For the second time I am left reeling (in all the best ways). It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and emotional and I’m not sure how to wade through these emotions. It’s deliciously spicy and then the story shifts and the characters become so much more than the black and white. This is truly an emotional rollercoaster where you hit every sensation imaginable. Just as the first installment of the series, I’m in awe of the psyche of a submissive. The in depth detail is impeccable, to the point where I felt every experience.

Im so in love with this storyline… and I’m emotionally raw. Im going to talk about this one for days, the book hangover is going to last me awhile. I need aftercare after this.

This didn't go the way I thought it would... I was really hoping that it being classified as an mfm romance meant she wouldn't have to choose. Don't get me wrong, in the first book the fmc struggles, but this poor girl just continues to go through the wringer because of these two men.. I keep going between four stars and five... When it comes to a HEALTHY bdsm relationship... this is not it. This is so far from healthy. When it comes to smut... the writer is really talented and that's why I want to give it five stars. But yeah, compared to the first book where going into it you know she isn't going to be treated how she should, to this one where you expect her to be treated better and she ends up being treated WORSE... just not good.

I've got lots to say. Wow this is a complete turn-over from the first book IMO.

Please, before I continue I just wanted to say that I enjoy the book. I just happened to have opinions that I try to adress respectfully.

First and foremost, Clara is definitely going through a lot. Everything that happens with Grigory & Markus, every change in their feelings or thoughts affect her greatly. I think it's unfair for her; she's a Sub so I assume she needs to be taken care off well and the Doms should've known better to mind about her hypersensitivity. Second of all, it's MFM until it doesn't feel like it. I'm leaning towards Clara throughout the book because Markus is constantly leaving her for his job & Grigory occassionally being closed-off. Chapter 39 was hard to read because well.. he did it just like that? Imagine her confusion. Third, Grigory is a true.. Sadist. Like.. Devin Andersen but make it milder and morally more.. appropriate. He's just unhinged. Do I like it? Sure. It surprises me because it adds certain darkness to his already-brooding character.

The spice in this book is alarming, definitely a lot more explicit than the first one. Since this is a trilogy, I cannot wait for the characters to speak to Ella & finally got her to write the continuation. I'm curious about what would happen with Clara and Grigory, maybe some brooding on Markus' end, overall I'm just anticipating how the story will end.

If I Were Yours is a continuation of the first book where we get to see how the troubled trio is doing their sharing arrangement. With Markus constantly on trips, Clara is often left under Grigory's care. Their relationship has developed, eventually making Clara trapped in her own feelings if she's doing her relationship with Markus wrong by falling for Grigory or if she really wants what she feels she wants from Grigory. It's confusing, I know. But that's the twist that got me so hooked in this book. It's like what we like from the characters on the first book is being tested with the development in this one.

“You’ll do whatever I say, submit to anything I want. And if I want you to hurt, you’ll thank me for the pain I give you.”

If I Were Yours was a breathtaking, sexy, emotionally raw sequel to Not Yours to Keep that perfectly delivered everything I could have wanted. I LOVED this book! Ella’s characters will burrow into your heart and twist and pull so that you feel every joy and heartbreak right alongside them.

This book has all the good stuff: BDSM, age gap, why choose, dub con, degradation. Clara, Grigory, and Markus put you through the wringer in this book. They try to navigate a complex MfM relationship, the results of which are eviscerating just as often as they are tantalizing. I felt Clara’s pain and insecurities so sharply, and I am not ashamed to say that a certain scene had me in tears. I’m fairly certain Ella has an inner sadist with her talent for tormenting her poor readers with constant emotional turmoil.

Ella’s style of writing is so genuine and unfiltered, and she isn’t afraid to show the real parts of BDSM that aren’t always pretty and sexy. But she gives you plenty of sexy kink too. The spice in this book is much hotter than the first book, and the kink is smutty, filthy perfection. Grigory had me hot for things I never would have imagined liking. That man brings me to my damn knees.

Be warned, If I Were Yours is intense. Ella takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, and the highs and lows will leave you breathless. But trust me, the end is absolutely worth it.

This book is a sequel, so please make sure you read Not Yours to Keep first.

Hi, its me with another review because I have been on a reading streak (holler, cause its been a min). Anyway... I wanted to share a little bit about Mr. Grigory here (handsome right?!?)

First things first, this is not a stand alone. Please check out 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 before reading this one or you will be hella confused. This story is a continuation of book 1 and picks up right where it left off. We have Clara, who is a complete submissive with Markus as her Dom. He travels a lot and know she needs more than he can give, so he shares her with Grigory (much older, super strict...you know the type). There are feelings obvi because HELLO sexual tension. But things take a bit of a turn when the feelings get real and emotions become super raw. This is a MFM (some group activity, no ⚔️). It is more polyamory than why choose. I have to say, these books are the first I personally have read that are written in a such an emotional POV. I loved that we got a few chapters from Markus POV and Grigory, it helps tremendously but what I loved most is that the feelings, thoughts, insecurities, struggles, emotions, love, grief etc are all feelings that we go through on the daily. While Clara may seem fragile or dependent on the MCs, imagine the strength it takes to entrust someone else so much with your well beings. It is an interesting dynamic that I enjoyed seeing a glimpse into.

This second book picks up right where Not Yours To Keep left off so you need to read that first. I was so excited (albeit a little anxious) to be back with Clara, Grigory and Markus and see how their threesome dynamic developed. I don't want to say too much and give anything away but Grigory went from being on my bad list to me absolutely wanting to have him do bad things to me. The way he becomes the Dom Clara always needed him to be and experiencing the turmoil and guilt around their dynamic was so powerful. He melted me with every devochka that fell from his lips.

IIWY is definitely less heavy (imo) than NYTK which I was thankful for because that book put me through the ringer! The writing and content is no less beautiful and powerful though. Ella's writing is emotive and the characters are so well written that it's effortlessly easy to get swept up in their fears and desires. This series is character driven, the main plot is them and their relationship and love. Ella's experience within the lifestyle is so evident and she uses that to write such complex and dynamic characters that you wouldn't want anything else to be going on because it's already almost too much to handle. I'm very intrigued to see what book three will bring us.

This book is so jam-packed filled with raw emotion that will fully and truly affect you hard whilst reading it. The author writes so beautifully how both sides of a dom/sub relationship is affected through different hardships in their lifes. It’s not like looking through a window, no it’s like standing in the room with them. It’s like I’m holding down Claras hands or I’m dealing the blows. Can be quite overwhelming, and I had to pause after some chapters because it was so intense. But I still really liked that, it made the impact this book gave so much more acute.
I liked this book even more than the first, to read both Marcus and Claras insights of their relationship throughout the book, and then their final realizations where magnificent. Also the exploration of Grigorys emotions and feelings, which we got little of in the first one, gave me so much. I also still appreciate the setting of these books, in the music world. The descriptions of the enviornment of the operas and concerthalls, and how they use their submissive and dominant sides in their work.

I’m both scared and excited for the third and final book in this trilogy and I’m so thankful to Ella for allowing me to once again be an ARC reader. Well done, well done 👏🏼

woah. woah what the fuck.

I loved (almost) every second of this book. So good. But, to be fair, you really have to be into this lifestyle to enjoy it- else it's gonna be really ew and cringey for you. But I love Grigory, and so I loved this book even more. Just one thing: the thing that happens the at the very last (iykyk) was kind of too unhinged for me, to be honest. But each to their liking, and it was only a very short scene, so it's okay (i suppose).

What's not okay though is that the third book isn't published yet. Hello???? How do you expect me to live through this?? Even though there isn't really a cliffhanger, I absolutely can't wait to read the next one. So excited!! Well, and also kinda scared. Even though i feel sorry for Markus, I kind of like it the way it ends. Of course it was too abrupt to be a real final ending, but since it isn't one that's probably why it is the way it is. But yeahhh I really hope we'll at least know the release date soon! I'm squirming here.

This book had me on a emotional rollercoaster. Every time I think it’s over, the emotions come back again but even harder. I love how the relationship between Grigory, Clara, and Markus grew. Clara never knew how much she needed what Grigory can give her, but she also feels like her feelings towards Grigory is a betrayal to Markus. The growth of all their emotions and of them understanding each other knowing what they and each of them need is amazing.

Will Clara figure out what she truly needs and choose between Markus or Grigory? Or will she stay with Markus because of her love for him even though Grigory sparks something deep in her that she never knew existed?

I love Markus and Grigory even though he can be brooding and intense. I understand how Clara must have felt between both of the men because I wouldn’t know who to choose also.

This book picks up right where the first one left off. I found this book had such raw emotion from every character while showing their personal struggles with this new dynamic they are all involved in.

As her feelings and attachment grow for Grigory in this book, you can slowly watch the dynamic switch and pull away from Markus. It had such powerful emotion, and we watched Clara really struggle with it all.

I will say there are areas of the book that slowed down for me, and Clara did seem overly dependent on these 2 men.

I did enjoy the first two books and will continue the series. I'm curious to see how the shift in dynamic affects the rest of their story!

After reading book one, ‘Not Yours to Keep’ I desperately needed book two and once I received it I couldn’t put it down. I have never felt so close to a book before I read Ella’s books. I thought book one impacted me but this one definitely hit harder. The emotions Clara felt from not only getting closer to Grigory but how she felt with slowly drifting away from Markus had me so captivated yet also distressed because I could relate to how she felt. Ella really knows how to capture the dynamics between a Dominate and Submissive and put it perfect on paper. The push and pull I felt the whole book had me feeling exhausted after but exhilarated at the same time.

The ending... it was so intense and beautifully written, I’m not lying when I say I cried. You could feel Clara giving everything she had. I was so drawn into the emotions just flowing off the pages I was seriously stunned after it was finished. Ella captured their moment just perfect leaving me feeling whole again and at peace. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I will forever have a special place in my heart and on my shelves for Ella’s books.

The book…..
The second installment of the Not Yours trilogy was intoxicatingly beautiful and intense. The writing pulls you in from the beginning and has you feeling everything the characters do. Heartbreak, happiness, anxiety, bliss, all of it. While I do have some mixed feelings and a boatload of questions, I am beyond interested in how this trilogy is going to conclude.

Wow,

The raw honest emotions in the second part of this duet were wild. The story continues where we left off with Grigory and Markus agreeing to share Clara.

This brings up so many confusing feelings for Clara, who spends half the book having the time of her life and the other hiding away in her bed.

At so many points did I want to punch these idiot men for not communicating their feelings or past traumas.

The characters felt so real and intense and the foreshadowing was so emotional I genuinely sobbed at the end.

It was so interesting only getting Markus and Clara's POVs. It left Grigory so much more a mystery which added to his character presence.

This story picks up where "Not Yours to Keep" leaves off, Clara is asked to leave Markus behind to travel with Grigory for three months. Clara is torn between her two dominant men. Markus trusts Grigory to take care of Clara for three months, but she ends up getting hurt. After three months, Markus meets up with Clara again and can tell that she is struggling between the two men. Will the three of them be able to work out their relationship?

This novel has the tropes of why choose, age gap, breath play, and BDSM. This is the second book in the Not Yours series. I loved the character of Clara from the first book. I also loved seeing the relationship build between her and the two men. This book leaves off in a cliffhanger. This story takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride as they read it. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next book in this series. This spice was incredibly hot. Please check your trigger warnings before reading the book.

Okay first thing, definitely need to read book one! This story picks up right where book one ends. Also check triggers. Such a beautiful yet emotionally heartbreaking story! Oh man, if I thought book one had my emotions in a tail spin! This one absolutely added to that. I felt so much for Clara in book one, definitely cried more than once. With how Grigory had treated her and also how Markus handled the situation also. So it was interesting to see in this story how all of it unfolds and the dynamics between the three, and between Grigory and Clara and then Markus and Clara. I enjoyed seeing Clara open up more as a submissive and learning more of herself with Grigory. I love the exploration of the Dom/sub aspect. Definitely ready for more 🥹♥️ also spice level was more in book two. Over all a great story, soooo happy to get to be apart of it.

This book picks up right where we left off in the first book. Again you feel emotional reading Clara’s thoughts on different situations, but I couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed at her as well at times. I liked Grigory more in this book than I did the first book, and liked Markus less. I think that’s because I enjoyed the dynamic between Clara and Grigory more than I enjoyed the dynamic between Clara and Markus, which was interesting because I felt the opposite while reading the first book. I definitely recommend if you enjoy books that cover a BDSM, dom/sub relationship.

Grigory cannot fully give Claire what she wants and needs because she is not his. He doesn't share well, but he can't give her up either. He needs her.

Claire loves Marcus hut craves what Grigory gives her. She's always felt protected by Marcus but there is fear and protection from Grigory too. Marcus acts as though Claire is a burden at times, weak. That upsets her and then the distance between them keeps growing with his absence.

When Claire is faced with a choice, can she make it? Will she choose the safety net or the fear?

Absolutely loved this story.

4/5 stars
4/5 peppers (There are reasons)

The story picks up where we last left off, the trio still trying to figure it all out. Clara trying to remain loyal to Markus but also trying to learn to trust Grigory. This is an exploratory of the dom/sub lifestyle and I love the writing and the raw experience we get. The characters develop over time and I feel we all once feared Grigory to where we see the layers of him. I'll be honest, my heart broke at the relationship that continued to unfold between Clara and Markus because I feel we see a new reality and honestly human factor of choosing career over love and relationship.

The spice. Now before I didn't give the first one a spice rating due to the fact that it was more of an exploratory element than a wham bam thank you ma'am. But the spice developed, where we have primal urges, degradation and exploring the side of it, sharing, breath play, praise, and a dash of a knife play.

The dynamics have shifted and I don't think you're all ready for this. I don't know what the third one and I don't think I'm ready for it.

BDSM with MFM DOM/sub content check triggers before reading!

After a few months apart, Clara, Markus, and Grigory are back together! They form an understanding that while Markus is away, Grigory is in charge. But feelings are forming for Grigory, causing distance between Clara and Markus. Can Clara choose between love and true dominance that she is craving? Choices are made. What will they be? You'll have to read it to find out!!

I could not put this book down. The highs and lows that Clara feels in these pages I felt while reading them. I am still reeling from finishing this book and leaving me wondering on what will happen next. Grigory is such a caring Dom for Clara. He gives her the space to see her submissive potential. To see the growth that you see Clara have with her relationship with both Marcus and Grigory is beautiful.

Powerful Read

Every step of the way, I fell more in love with Clara and Grigory, their dynamic and the powerful sense of rightness in their relationship. I've never read a book that so richly expresses the devotion submission can bring. I cried as she cried, submitted as she submitted. You will fall hopelessly into the beauty of this book from the first word to the last.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

This is book 2 in the “not yours” trilogy and omg was that a ride! About 50(ish) percent into it I had a lump in my throat like I was the one going through it in real life.

Grigory & Markus have my emotions ALL over the place. The ending is well……a lot.

If you read book 1 and liked it then read this one, it’s just as good!

I love ella jacobs books they are so intriguing. This is book 2 in the “Not yours trilogy.” Marcus shares Clara with her teacher Grigory. The love connection between the three is amazing this is a Sub/Dom relationship. The ending was heartbreaking for me for her to have to say goodbye to one partner :(

I loved that Clara opened up more as a submissive and learned more about herself. I loved the exploration of the dom and sub roles and the growth with book two. Book one was intense, and I definitely felt for Clara. Book two picked up right where book one left off and you get some answers as to all the why's. Feelings are getting tangled. I can't wait on book three to see how this all unfolds.
