It was good, not steller, but a fun read. I think personally I'm kind of over coming-of-age/coming-out stories, so those aspects really detracted from my enjoyment. It was tropey, but the author did a pretty good job balancing the tropes with twists, so it didn't get too boring or TOO predictable. It was the author's first novel and that did come across in the writing style, when he gave far too much unnecessarily detailed backstory for some secondary characters, while barely touching on others.
A perfect novel for any queer comic fan. You are dropped into a fully realized world, reminiscent of DC Comics, full of heroes, villains and dysfunctional families. At the heart is a teenager grappling with his newfound abilities along with his homosexuality. This fast paced book with a little mystery along the way is an emotional & adventurous read that I recommend highly.
A good read about an underrepresented area in the superhero genre, and what makes a hero. Sorry to find out that there will not be any intended sequels.
I read this as a teenager and it was exciting and needed. Touching on diversity in a sincere way without being forced. A brilliant read and I laughed as much as I was gripped by it
