Embracing Grace: Settling the Guilt That Unsettles You

Rate this book
Many Christians wake up in the morning with a sense that something just isn't quite right - a feeling that they haven't quite done enough, prayed enough, or confessed enough to make themselves worthy of God's love. In this biblically rich, but highly accessible new book from Daniel Brown, believers will be given the tools to overcome their low grade guilt and rediscover or discover for the first time the liberating, all-in grace that Christ promised us through His death and resurrection. In low shelf terms, Brown provides a clear overview of Law and Grace, and how God has provided both not to point out what we are doing wrong, but to help us more fully live in the love He has given to us. In Embracing Grace, guilt-weary readers will be able clearly understand the relationship between Grace and the Law; equip themselves with the tools to overcome the lies of the adversary; and appropriate their position in Christ on a daily basis. Easy-to-read, short chapters break down the oft-confusing subjects of Grace, Law, Old Covenant, New Covenant, and more. It s time to fully embrace grace.

Daniel A. Brown

Daniel Brown is one of the most personable, yet provocative, Bible teachers in the kingdom. He gleans thought-provoking as well as practical treasures from the Bible, and expounds them with humor, animation and enthusiasm. Daniel’s unique approach to most subjects makes him well-recognized as an “out of the box” thinker with a distinctive, conversational and decidedly non-religious style. Within minutes, people feel like they have found a friend.

In December 1984, following five years on the pastoral ministry team under Pastor Jack Hayford at “The Church on the Way,” Daniel and his family were sent out to plant “The Coastlands,” a church near Santa Cruz, California, where he served as Lead Pastor for 22 years. During those years he sent out 37 church plant teams in the U.S. and other countries. Additionally, six of his associate pastors stepped into lead pastor positions, including the young man Daniel discipled to replace him as senior leader at “The Coastlands” in 2007.

He has authored five books, the latest of which are Embracing Grace (2013) and The Journey (2015). Dr. Brown is best known for resources that help local church leaders, as well as individuals, excel in their spiritual assignment. His simple mission statement is: “Love, mend, train and send people into more ministry than they would think to do on their own.” Simply put, “Dr. D” is a disciple-maker.

Today, Daniel heads up Commended To The Word and travels the globe teaching leaders and encouraging them to ‘give your all’ for God.

Daniel and Pamela have been married since 1973. They have four children and thirteen grandchildren.

I've now read this book twice...and the second time was even better than the first. The author's depth of biblical perspective and perception is not just powerful; it's practical! He's an illustration artist that helps to brand truth to your soul. Example:

"Much like long-ago civilizations believed that the earth was flat, and people who sailed to the edge of the world would fall off, some believers imagine that God's grace has ends from which people can fall. That is not what the New Testament teaches." p 17

And not just the New Testament. Brown dives into the Old Testament as well, showing how God's judgment and His promise are beautifully intertwined.

Embracing Grace would make an ideal small group book, material for a sermon series, or an excellent personal resource. And its content may surprise you, as you'll discover how the "Spirit of the Pharisee" has been working to steal away God's grace for your life.

Excellent Biblically based discussion of grace, legalism, and how to apply the wondrous love of Jesus and His grace to your life, by my friend and former pastor, Daniel Brown.

I found “Embracing Grace” to be an honest and insightful treatment on Biblical grace. The siren-call of religiosity is that if we can just do the right thing to please God, then he’ll shrug off our mistakes. In reality we’ll never quite get there. True grace as described in the Bible tells us of a better path. A couple of quotes from the book might shed some light on it:

“God is completely for us, but completely against our sin.”

“Disobedience increases the level of disbelief.”

“God certainly does censure people for their sin, but if you keep reading in your Bible, you will discover that every sentence He declares against His people is always accompanied with promises for their future. For God, judgment and promise go hand in hand.”
