The Hudson Valley of New York has been a UFO hotspot for generations. This is the first comprehensive book to examine eyewitness accounts from the 1930s to the present. From Manhattan to Albany, people have been seeing all shapes and sizes of craft--from the giant triangle to classic flying saucers. They have also been having uncomfortably close encounters. Is the Hudson Valley also Abduction Alley?
As I confess elsewhere (Sects and Violence in the Ancient World), I read Linda Zimmermann’s second self-published book on this topic first because of title confusion. Because of the way I think, I had to go back and read the first book. I hate to break up a set. Like many people, I’m curious about the recent surge of interest in UFOs in mainstream media and the Hudson Valley’s always been a place that has fascinated me.
Stretching from roughly Albany to New York City, the Hudson Valley has its share of strangeness. Back in the 1980s there were many, many reports of UFOs over the region and hundreds of witnesses. Back in the eighties, however, you were ridiculed as a default response if you said you saw a UFO. Zimmermann found that three decades made a difference and people were willing to talk to her about their experiences when she announced she was making a film on the topic.
This book is kind of a companion volume to the documentary. I say this about most self-published books: it would have benefitted from an editor. Those of us who write are too close to our subjects to satisfactorily judge when we’ve included too much material, or have written something that would be best left out. Also, many books wouldn’t suffer for being a bit shorter. Still, there’s interesting stuff here. It will all depend on how likely you are to believe strangers when they tell you they’ve seen strange things.
The Hudson Valley is home to many beautiful locations and historic sites. Beyond these it is also host to many sightings of UFOs. This book covers many of those sightings from the past seventy or so years.
This book feels more like a reference book as opposed to one that really goes in depth on the subject. It covers a multitude of cases of sightings to even abductions. These entries are good but more surface level than a full dive into what always feel like a larger story. The book also has some emails written as is on pages, which can lead to some walls of text that can become a bit difficult to get through.
It was interesting seeing many locations that I know in the book. Most the cases seem to come from credible people, a few are more out there, so they don't feel too bizarre to read. A good edition to anyone interested in the subject.
Here are pages after pages of personal testimony of UFO sightings in just one little section of the Country. Some of the sightings are from people who are probably just a "a few bricks shy of a full load", but most of these sightings are from ordinary people who have seen something extraordinary. The author let's YOU decide the value of each sighting...fascinating!
This book is based on the sightings and experiences on the Hudson Valley, the author takles the subject with honesty, she does provide some interesting data, still the author does not delve deeply in the ufo phenomenon, but it is a worthwhile reading.
