Rate this book
Ethan Abbatt is a wolf shifter who can't shift. Plagued by pain and weakness all his life, he hopes to find an honorable death by joining his pack mates in a vampire attack. Instead, Ethan learns two things: draining his blood releases his pain and his wolf, and he has a true mate - a vampire named Miguel.

Miguel Rodriguez is more than four centuries old. Strong, powerful, and vicious, he walks through life as a shadow, without happiness or affection. When a young shifter tells Miguel they're true mates, destined to be together, Miguel sends him away. But Ethan is persistent, and Miguel can't resist for long. Once Miguel gives in, being together comes naturally. The challenge is keeping themselves alive so they can stay by each other's side until forever comes.

cute!! smutty!! sweet!!

what else do i need?

this had everything i love and need in a mates romance, with so much jealousy and possessiveness, as well as the whole concept of the characters doing everything and anything for each other. throw in a vampire x wolf shifter romance and you also got some knotting, biting, and blood sucking. there were also some “touch him and you die” moments. 🫣

the relationship between miguel and ethan is insta everything—insta love, lust, and attraction, but especially lust, since ethan is very horny and sexually attracted to miguel lol. they don’t have as many moments between them as i would normally love but it all worked out for me in the end. this was definitely a “no thoughts, head empty” kind of book because it felt like one you simply have to go in just for the ride, and i definitely enjoyed it.

i was worried this wouldn’t work for me because i wasn’t a fan of the first book. i also gathered it had a lot of sex in it from reviews i read, and if you know me well, that’s usually always an issue (when it feels like too much), but this is a perfect example of when it works, it works. the aftercare was incredibly wholesome. miguel the 400-year-old grumpy vampire who will do anything for his 20-year-old smaller wolf shifter mate. i loved seeing these two together. they had their hot moments or whatever but the aftercare and sweetness is what what me over. the forehead kisses!! the clinginess!! the neediness!!

i love cardeno’s trademark when it comes to writing this genre. i was too busy loving this that i didn’t even get to highlight quotes, which i hardly ever not do, so that says a lot about how absorbed i was.

Vampire + wolf shifter = truly hawt, delicious fun

This book was so damn smexy, I may have needed a cold shower, or three.

Miguel and Ethan are constantly on each other, licking, sucking, BITING. Plus, the romance factor was through the roof: knotting, mating, and blood bonding (blood, you all, so much blood). And MINE MINE MINE forever.

Damn, I need a smoke.

If you read the first Mates book:

Wake Me Up Inside (Mates, #1) by Cardeno C.

You'll remember that Ethan and Miguel were the small brown wolf and vampire who helped save Jonah's dad from a group of rabid shifters toward the end of that story. I was immediately drawn to the couple and wondered how they came to be.

This book begins approximately 50 years BEFORE the final scene in book 1.

Yeah, I said 50.

YEARS.

Ethan and Miguel are an awesome couple. Ethan narrates this book in the first-person, and I loved his small-town, farm-boy persona. I giggled many times.

My only quibble is that I wanted more vampire folklore and more about Miguel's previous life centuries. Based on my calculations, Miguel was born in the 16th century. I love me some historical vampire stories, but what we got here was vague. Indeed, the time and place were only lightly sketched. The setting in this book felt like small-town America circa 1960 maybe, but all we have to go on is the mention of a diner and land parcels, not a whole lot of detail.

Oh, well, the focus was the relationship, and that certainly wasn't lacking any.

I just wish we'd gotten a followup to the ending of book 1 so we could see if Ethan and Miguel finally bypassed pack ignorance with the fabulous Zev leading as Alpha. I liked the a-ha! moment in this book when I realized how Ethan and Jonah (from book 1) were connected.

Very clever, CC! I can't wait to read book 3.

I am CHARMED! This book is sweet, and romantic, and tender…and the BLOOD…so much BLOOD! Ha!

I have to admit that I’ve never read a “shifter” book (ummm…let’s pretend I’ve never read Twilight, shall we?) and hadn’t even realized it was about werewolves and vampires. So, I can’t tell you if this is original or not, or if it’s true to “shifterdom” or not, or if it’s even got the right amount of action or not.

All I can say is that I adored it!

Ethan, the never-felt-right-in-his-pack shifter, is the sweetest thing EVER! I want to eat him up…like a cupcake! I loved him. He’s naïve and innocent, but knows what he wants, what he needs, what he’s due, and what’s his. Oh, and he’s little, but his prick is the size of his arm (the author’s words, not mine! :) )

Miguel, the 400-year-old indestructible alpha vampire is the sexiest thing EVER! I want to eat him up…like a steak! I loved him. He’s strong and passionate, and he will do whatever it takes to protect his mate. *sigh* Oh, and he’s funny and this big huge guy isn’t afraid to bottom (the author’s story, not mine! :) )

Their relationship had my heart all a-flutter and their insatiable appetites for each other had me breathing extra heavy.

Sweet, sexy, and fun…highly reco’d for escapist-fare. Oh and though this is a book 2 in the series, it works as a standalone. I never read book 1 and I was not lost at all…

If a 400 years old vampire starts a relationship with a 20 years old wolf (ie 380 years difference) and he provides everything such as money, clothing, food and a home
does this means that he can be called wolf's Sugar Daddy?
Just wondering....

Anyway, I really liked Ethan's sense of humor who is telling their love story.

We have met wolf Ethan and his true mate, vampire Miguel in the book "wake me up inside".
I was really interested in finding out how they met, but I think the storyline is lacking in this book. I wanted more.
Also the writing style is very different in this book in comparison to the first book which I absolutely loved. I am not sure I liked it and it put me off a bit.
Still, the book was good fun.

Loved this one so much more than the first. It actually takes place years before book 1. Ethan and Miguel make an appearance in book 1 and this is their story. You could read this first then book 1 IMO. Either way, this story appealed to me more. It is how I like mate stories and while Miguel didn't buy into the mate thing at first (he didn't think vampires could have mates) he does come around and he's happy to have Ethan.

Ethan was a hoot! He is definitely a country bumpkin down to his cut-off jean shorts and southern twang. I loved him so much. He knew Miguel was his mate and was determined to be with him no matter what. Miguel is a hot sexy suave vampire. These two shouldn't match but they do. They were made for each other.

So, I definitely recommend this if you like a sweet mate story.

Note to self download May 20th.
Note to DSP it would be really cool if you would send out reminders for pre-ordered books when they become available. Samhain does it, and it's a very customer friendly thing to do.

This is the second book in the Mates series, but it's actually more of a prequel to Wake Me Up Inside, and it helped clear up some things from that book.
Ethan, poor little guy, he never quite fit in with his pack, he was small and sickly and he couldn't shift. All things that made him undesirable.
We only see a little of his parents and a bit more of his sister, but they were great, no hating on the little runt from them. They love him and he knows it.
Out one evening he runs into some vampires, which is how he planned the evening, he went so far as to figure this would be the end of his short life, he was getting sicker and figured why not go out with a bang.
Instead he meets Miguel, and he quickly figures out this is his true mate, he gets Miguel on board with that and things take off. Well mostly the clothes get taken off..
I loved that little small runt Ethan tops more often than not, but neither one is dominant in the relationship, even if Miguel is much much older and wiser and more powerful and wealthier...etc. There's some action and some baddies get their due, we get a bit more of shifter and vampire infos and it's a sweet mate-mine *insert growl here* story which I enjoyed.

5 Stars! Sweet, sexy, wolf-shifter/vampire romance! Another lovely, feel good read by this talented author.

I'm a fan of the crossover romance, when paranormal species find love outside of their own kind. It makes for interesting reading to see how they overcome the obstacles they face and such was the case for Ethan the young shifter, and Miguel the 400 year old vampire.

Ethan was so naive, which made him utterly adorable and added to his charm. I loved how Miguel connected with him and his protective nature wrapped itself around the young shifter. Miguel was so tender with Ethan, talked so sweetly to him, treated him with the utmost care, it was so unlike the way he was initially depicted. Once they realized they were true mates they never questioned their fate and embraced it, well Miguel did a little, but it didn't last long...he wanted Ethan so much. While they knew it wasn't going to be easy to bring their two worlds together, they go through some trials and tribulations, but they never once felt anything was insurmountable and would keep them from each other.

This was a well-rounded read with two likable main characters, some fun secondary characters, a little action, an interesting story line about overcoming differences, and plenty of sweet, hot lovin'! All of which this author writes so well, has made me a fan, and keeps me coming back!

This was my second listen by Charlie David and it was just as good as the first. He inserts just the right amount of emotion into his voice when necessary and is able to create a distinctive voice for each of the characters with his smooth soothing tone!

Cardeno C. and Charlie David are a terrific author/narrator match and I'm hoping they continue to work together in the future. It's meant to be!

This is my favorite story in the “Mates” universe, so be prepared for a bit of fangirling. This story has it all: Sex, humor, action…sex!

Love it

The world building is interesting, the pace is fast, and I loved these two characters! Ethan’s sweetness covers a core of steel and Miguel, well, Miguel is mostly steel with a tiny, tiny core of sweetness that’s pretty much only for Ethan. Their passion is so HOT!

Ethan Abbatt is a werewolf who can’t shift, is the “runt” of his pack (his small stature being a source of constant shame), and has always been sickly. On the night Ethan and some packmates deliberately go to find some vampires to attack he meets Miguel…

My whole life, I’d been warned about the bloodsuckers. They had no souls, no values, no respect for nature or community or family. And while my kind limited interaction with the half-souls as a general rule, we didn’t abuse them. They were weaker than shifters and we didn’t prey on the weak, a concept the bloodsuckers didn’t understand. The one in front of me, Miguel, looked to be the worst of their kind, hurting and terrifying defenseless half-souls without mercy.

It turns out Miguel, an over four-hundred year old vampire, is Ethan's True Mate. Apparently, Ethan's sickly because his body produces too much blood, because he is the one who can sustain Miguel. And even though Vampires can't normally drink from werewolves without dying, Miguel is nourished by Ethan. It's earth shattering for Ethan and he turns away from his pack in order to be with Miguel.

“Are you sure about this?” he asked me breathlessly. “Are you sure you want to stay with me? Don’t you want to go home?”
“They’re one and the same,” I answered without hesitation, my voice husky, want and need and something else—something deeper, stronger—coursing through me.
“Okay,” he said. “All right.” He cupped the sides of my head, petted my scalp with his fingers, and caressed my face with his thumbs. “And, Ethan? I didn’t expect you. I don’t understand what’s happening to me, what’s happening between us. But as long as you want to stay with me, you’ll be all I need. You are enough for me. Don’t ever doubt that, okay, baby?”

So if you fancy a lot of super hot sexy times, tempered with some emotional loving, and more than a little bit of action – don’t hesitate to pick this up!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

4 Stars - Bloody, intense, hot and super cute -
simply irresistible cozy to listen to

Book #2

Until Forever Comes is the second (stand alone) book in the M/M shifter "Mates" series. I read and enjoyed #1 - Wake Me Up Inside (3.5 stars) maybe a year ago. In that first installment we had a quick (interesting) meeting with the main characters in this second novel (that takes place before the first book).

I just knew this should be some really nice 6 hours audiobook listening when I saw that it is narrated by Charlie David. That man know how to read a M/M book for you. I just love to listening to his voice once again.

And gee —OMG— this was exactly what I wanted right now. A perfect steaming yummy romance to listen to when it's raining outside and the giant (after the holidays) laundry must be fixed and then become ironed. ~ A great audio choice.

***********************************************

Ethan Abbatt is a young wolf shifter who can’t shift. Miguel Rodriguez is a more than four centuries old vampire ...who can't love. ~ Their story is read, or listened to, rather quickly. It's hot, intense and pleasurable. I giggled and enjoyed these interesting and often very funny men.

Yet another story about finding your true mate. This time, I believed in it from the first second. No fuss, just bang on and run like crazy.
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

“Nothing could ever hurt enough to make me turn down your touch,” he said.

These two, a young innocent (virgin) wolf shifter and a tough vampire, forms a very unusual new kind of couple and it felt fresh and somewhat new compared to many other stories I've read in the genre. This book might also be taking home an extra victory (star) if it is enjoyed as an audiobook. This amazing (se above) narrator, with warm husky voice, makes every scene so damn good.

***********************************************

Maybe not a grand unforgettable M/M romance that I will remember forever, but still pretty good entertainment for the moment. And bloody hot!! ~ Recommended for all naughty Vampire & Wolf admirers.

~ Now I need to look for more audio books narrated by Charlie David.

I LIKE - Yap, I bloody did

I was bamboozled dangnabbit!

I went into this book thinking it was going to be the cutest thing ever. I was so wrong. It was...not cute. Long story short, Ethan is a twenty year old shifter who's the sickly runt of the pack. He's also unable to shift, so everyone thinks he's a freak. He goes out one night with the other young men in the pack to hunt vampires. The other guys are going because they want to be heroes. Ethan is going because he wants to die honorably. Things go horribly wrong though and the story gets ridiculous.

#1: The vampires kick the shifters' asses. Royally. I was embarassed for the wolves. They were all "Mayday! Mayday! Vampires ARE badasses!!". Ethan and the boys are especially unlucky because they've found the most badass vampire of them all; Miguel. Miguel is over 400 years old and all about ripping out dudes' entrails. So, Ethan is lying on the dirty alleyway ground, damn near dead, bleeding out and watching Miguel come closer so that he can kill the shit out of Ethan. And what happens? Guess. Okay, whatever you just guessed is wrong. Ethan, who is about to DIE, has a spontaneous orgasm. I'm not lying. I can't even form some thoughtful opinion on that that goes beyond "WTF?!".

And then for the first time ever, Ethan shifts. Hooray. *blink blink*

#2: Somehow Ethan figures out that damn near bleeding out is what lets him shift. So, he cuts the shit out of himself so that he can release his wolf. Yet another thing that I don't know how to respond to. Not little cuts. He's slashing at himself like he's trying to reenact the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was all " Oooh, come on man, figure something else out!". And he does. Kinda. He figures out that he needs to go back to his vampire mate. This leads to another alleyway meeting of which the highlight was Miguel saying something along the lines of "Shift, wolf, because I want to fuck you but won't stick my dick in an animal."

*blink blink* Good to know, Miguel. Good to know.

#3: Oh, wait, I have yet to mention the ridiculous amount of Southern-isms in this book. Ethan is "knee high to a grasshopper". People are over yonder. There's something every couple of pages that had me shaking my head. This might just be because I'm from the Northeast and the way Southeners speak sometimes throws me. However, maybe it was supposed to be the deep South. I don't know. I just don't know.

#4: The biggest WTF for me was one of the last scenes. Ethan and Miguel are getting it on. Ethan's dick has just knotted in Miguel's ass so they can't separate yet. In comes Miguel's niece and she proceeds to have a conversation with Miguel and Ethan while they are at the tail end of doing the nasty. I don't know how I, as a reader, was supposed to react to that scene. It was weird. I don't know how else to explain it.

All in all...*sigh* I don't know what this book was. Will I try the third one if there's a third one? Probably. Just...probably. We'll leave it at that.

***** A Cardeno C shifter/vampire story that is entertaining.
Wolf shifter, Ethan, finds himself in a mess in a town alley.

He was trying to go along with his pack-mates and it turned out badly.
Ethan, 20, has always been sickly; not able to turn into his wolf form, which disappoints his family, except his sister.

In that alley, Ethan finds a miracle... his "true mate,"
who is a vampire, Miguel. Miguel is beautiful and fierce,

has long black hair and is amazing and strong; a 400 yr. old Ancient being, an immortal.

Ethan's goal from then on is to make his claim and show Miguel what true mates means.

This is a terrific shifter story, with new twists, and an interesting story that grips our attention. We do get graphic violence, knotting and very bad guys. The southern accent was well done, relevant to the location, and characterizes the wolf pack's self sustenance and lack of education, who are removed from the outside world.

The sexy times are raw, gritty, intense and erotic, plus first times for Ethan. I loved Ethan and his ferocity, his strength and his overcoming the low self esteem he had. His vampire gives him what he needs to thrive, and vice versa.

A very surprising and unusual tale, I truly liked.
ENJOY !

Ethan was a runt shifter. Miguel was a BAMF vampire. Neither expected the other to be his mate. Could they be together, considering wolf shifters hated vampires, and the two kinds were fighting most of the time?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's sweet, but far from tooth-ache sweet. . There are tensions coming from different cultural understandings, as well as individual differences. The most thing I like, though, is Ethan and Miguel's strong relationship.

This is a second book in the series, but chronologically is a prequel since the epilogue of this book happened several years prior to the beginning of the first book (i.e., when the MCs in that book were still babies). The way the author lay out the ground for the second book is really nice. Having said that, readers need to read the first book first since otherwise they'd miss the surprise twist of that book that links to this book.

PS: DSP, seriously. Why use a stock photo for two books that are released close to each other? Especially with a very distinct pose like that. Photoshopping hairs wouldn't do...

Re-read December 14th. God, I LOVE this book!!

---------------------------

description

20 year old Ethan has never been able to shift. He feels sick all the time and his pack is mostly embarrassed about him.

When he gets attacked by vampires, Ethan is ready to say goodbye to his life. That is until he feels one of those big bad scary bloodsuckers is his mate. Of course it is the meanest and baddest of all, a vampire named Miguel.

But Miguel feels the pull just as strongly as Ethan does. So instead of killing Ethan, like Miguel was supposed to, he treats him like a mate should, with warmth and tenderness.

I loved Ethan. He was so innocent and shy, yet so determined to make Miguel his own. And Miguel…. sigh…. He was perfect for Ethan. Yes, he was a scary vampire who ruled with an iron fist, but he wasn’t all bad and he was so sweet with Ethan.

So if you haven’t read this, go read it! It can be read as a stand-alone (even though you should read the first book because it’s awesome too!).

Oh, and did I mention KNOTTING?

I'm enjoying being in this world again. Nothing like a fluffy CC shifter novel :)

-----------Original Review: 30 Nov 2014-------------
While I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as I did Wake Me Up Inside, it certainly did not disappoint. As soon as we knew that Ethan and Miguel were good guys and saw that they were friends with Leah, I wanted to know more about them and how it was that Leah and her family came to know them. It was fascinating watching the story threads come together and remembering seemingly insignificant comments made by a couple characters in Wake Me Up Inside and realizing what they meant. I just love it when an author does that!

Well, we get some answers in Until Forever Comes along with, of course, how Ethan, a wolf shifter, came to be mated to Miguel, a vampire. Wolves and vampires have a not so friendly past and there is a lot of animosity on both sides. We learn more about shifter lore and mythology and how shifters relate to vampires (like shifter blood is poisonous to vampires) and, of course we learn that not all the lore is actually true.

This story is told from Ethan's POV. Ethan is a 20 year old wolf shifter that has never been able to shift. He's small and has always been rather sickly. He feels a great deal of shame and guilt because he has always been the weak one. His parents are loving, though, and his sister Crissy adores him. Crissy also sees a lot more in Ethan than others do.

One evening, while out with some other young adult wolves, doing stupid things like hunting vampires, Ethan is injured and his pack members leave him, assuming he won't be alive long, anyway (nice friends, yeah? Not.). Miguel is leading the pack of vampires that were being hunted and he takes an interest in Ethan lets him live. That night is also the first time our young Ethan is able to shift.

Miguel is over 400 years old. He goes through his life pretty much just existing until he meets Ethan. Also, around that same time, Miguel is plagued with hunger that just won't go away. No matter how much blood he takes from humans, his hunger is never sated. And, while he is drawn to Ethan, he sends Ethan away, feeling that nothing good could come of Ethan being there. Thank goodness Ethan is so tenacious. He recognizes his true mate and does not let up until Miguel gives in. Then they both see just how much they complete one another.

I'm thoroughly loving this series so far and I cannot wait to read more from this author. What took me so long, I'll never know, but I am hooked now.

I enjoyed getting to see how Miguel and Ethan became a couple. But I feel like I read Wake Me Up Inside too long ago to remember how everybody fits together so now I need to go back and re-read it.

I really loved Ethan. He was adorable. Loved how he didn't give up once he knew Miguel was his mate. I was initially very angry at his mistreatment by his pack but since it did bring him to Miguel, I couldn't be too upset.

Ethan and Miguel fit together so perfectly. I loved that Ethan was the one Miguel needed to fulfill his hunger. Their scenes together were so incredibly sexy!

No more. I can't.

Take one young, small, naive, small, infantile, hic of a shifter, Ethan, (does anyone anywhere actually talk like that? Really?) he doesn't even 'diddle' himself. That's the term he uses.
And one 400yrs old, brutal killer of a vampire, Miguel.

Forget insta-love, forget insta-lust - this is insta-orgasm! Near as nothing cumming at first sight! I kid you not.

Then throw in the most grotesque concept for magical compatibility ever. Buffy's Spike saw humans as walking happy meals this... this is bad. Think personalised GMO walking happy meal. I feel Ethan should be re-named Picnic!

And as a bonus some major slashing self-harm.

I have two words to say:

No. Thanks.

It's dreadful. I didn't reach halfway. There was no character development beyond their classification vampire/shifter and the insta-insta super creepy destiny thing they had going. And the way the shifters spoke was distracting. Ethan's pov is made up of childish, hard to follow rambling.

However if needing a reason to drink, line yourself up a whole counter of drinks:

For there is in rapid succession:
Member, Pole, Prick, Arousal, Shaft, Rod, Pecker, Penis... Someone remove CC's thesaurus and slap her hands - now - save us.

And what the - holding his body like a frog, puckered rosebud hidden in his trench.

So I’ve been waiting for this book for a while now. I loved the first book in the series, it was very special to me, and I wasn’t disappointed with the sequel.

Let’s get down to business, shall we?

True to form, the story was focused more on the relationships between the characters than the external conflict. And of course, there was the not so hidden message of tolerance. This one was primarily about not buying into stereotypes of different kinds of people. Tolerance and acceptance are universal messages throughout the story.

On to the fun stuff—It started with Ethan. He was like:

And then there was Miguel:

But then, we see Ethan nut up and get all toppy:

And then it was on.
But then Ethan would do his little growly jealous thing, and we were back to this:

I honestly expected Miguel to be a little harder to win over than he was, but who can resist the cute little Ethan-puppy.

I’m happy there weren’t a whole lot of tearful moments in this one, because I wasn’t in the mood to be sad. I LOLed a lot over the names. I just found it funny to have vampires named Ted and Ralph, and werewolves named Richie and Crissy. It makes them stand out from all of the Wraths and Rhages of the world.

The only thing I stumbled over was the accent/dialect of the shifters. Not because it was written badly, never that. Just as a southerner who’s been made fun of and thought to be dumb because of my accent, it felt a little tongue in cheek. But on Ethan, it was endearing, so it’s cool. :-)

So, long story short, Ethan and Miguel found their way to each other and then it was happily ever after for them.

Another stellar story from batmanCardeno C. Take a bow.

I loved the first story and wanted to know more about these guys, but this one just didn't work as well for me. Not sure why, but I really didn't feel the chemistry between the two fated mates until closer to the end of the story. Still enjoyable, but didn't come close to grabbing me the way the first book did. On to the next one!

I LOVED IT! A badass vampire, a sweet twink of a werewolf, KNOTTING, lots of sex, biting and blood-what’s not to love?

Ethan is adorable. He’s sweet and innocent and so damn funny. I loved that he didn’t question that Miguel was his mate at all. Vampires and werewolves are supposed to be enemies. Werewolves can only mate with other werewolves of the opposite sex because of reasons. When Ethan realizes that his mate is a vampire and male he doesn’t even blink. He goes home, packs his stuff and goes off to find his mate and convince him that he’s his.

I loved Miguel just as much. He’s hot and a badass and is very creative when it comes to sucking blood but he does need some convincing. Vampires don’t mate, they aren’t monogamous and they definitely do not drink werewolf blood. But Ethan won’t take no for an answer. And he does have an answer for any objection that Miguel comes up with.

(I'm paraphrasing here)
Miguel: I'm a vampire.
Ethan: So?
Miguel: I'm not a good man.
Ethan: I'll teach you to be one.
Miguel: Vampires aren't monogamous.
Ethan: YOU ARE NOW!

This book had me smiling and laughing and wanting to take a cold shower. Definitely my favorite in this series.

“Always,” I whispered. “I’ll always come back to you.”

Here's a picture that’s as sweet and hot as this book.

A wolf and vampire are true mates.. SOLD!!!

This was by far the SWEETEST relationship that was toothache inducing that I have read in quite some time. Ethan and Miguel are introduced to us in the first book and once it was said that they were a shifter and vampire couple I was completely intrigued and couldn't wait to get to their story. Definitely not disappointed with what I got.

Ethan is a 20 yr old shifter who never been able to shift. He's small, weak and sickly. Feeling guilty for putting shame to his family he decides he's done. So when a group of wolves decide to go hunting for vampires he joins in knowing he won't survive the outcome. He believes that at least this way he would die honorably and he wouldn't bring more shame to his family. But instead of finding death he finds his true mate in one of the vampires, Miguel.

Miguel doesn't believe vampires have souls so he's in denial of being the other half of Ethan's. It takes some persuasion by Ethan to get Miguel to even consider it. But Ethan is stubborn and persistent and eventually Miguel can't deny the connection and the bond he feels with Ethan.

I really adored how these two were with each other. Usually all the sex with so little more happening would have bothered me. But I think it all made since with what was happening. I loved that they healed each other.

I liked this one better than the first one because everything was pretty straight forward. I really enjoyed the ending. I liked that I got some answers at the end that I wanted answered from the first book. Not all was answered, but some. I was satisfied with what I got.

Excellent addition to the series.

Happy reading dolls! xx

This has an earthy naivety to it...with a lot of blood play. Not quite to my tastes but I enjoyed the world-building and I'd probably read the next book in the series.

There's a very strong insta-mate trope at work here that's always a hit or miss for me. This was kind of in-between. I was interested in the MCs because of their pivotal cameo in Wake Me Up Inside and I was curious how Miguel and Ethan came to be mates. The men had some good chemistry and there were some interesting secondary characters at play as well.

I was hoping to see a bit of a time jump to see where they were after the events of book 1 but although we see the build up to what takes place there, there's nothing touched on after that. Maybe in book 3?

An interesting take on shifters and vampires but not something I see myself re-visiting.

I have not had the greatest relationship with this authors book. This will be the highest rating I have given. This book was more my cup of tea to the others. It was the most straightforward of the books I have read and it did draw me in. The shifter/vampire mating was another attraction for me. Some may not like all the sex, I found it sweet and it drew me in. It had a plot of it's own.

Ethan's a shifter and Miguel a vampire. Not the greatest combination, but in this book it lead to hot sex and sweet scenes. I did enjoy the feeding aspect and the whole forbidden mates. One of the things I adored about this book was That is something I was happy about reading. It's one of my pet hates.

Highly recommended!

This second addition to the series was completely different in tone and voice. Where the first book was steeped in a huge amount of UST (I guess really unresolved sexual completion) this one starts off immediately. The longing, desperate tone is absent and I think I kinda missed it. However Ethan was fabulously sweet and innocent - but growly, jealous, protective, demanding, and adamant. He might come in a small package except where it counts :) - ha ha - but his innate goodness makes him and the book endearing.

Re-read - Oct 2020 - funny, silly story but I find it very easy to read. I need a good new vampire book in my life I think.

August 2015 - This was a little different than I remembered, very insta-love! Which felt a little overdone, but it had knotting, which I had forgotten, so YAY!! Still fun though.

Review:

Cute mushy story. Not much happens but it's short enough for you not to really notice. I read it in one sitting. Would have loved more possessive behavior from Miguel, but it was equalled out well by very possessive ethan :-)

This.... didn't age well 🫠

It's still enjoyable but I'm changing my rating from 4 to 3 stars.

It was all too much too soon. Way too short imo to be enjoyed more than I did.
