The ending reveals a the T. rex is still a baby in a nest, watched over lovingly by his "great BIG MAMA T. rex!"

Great book for children who like dinosaurs. The big 'T' has always been my favorite dino; that is the image that comes to mind when someone talks about them. This book could be of particular interest to a child trying to define what they like; it has a message of self that is very positive and yet very age appropriate.
I confess: I never read a dinosaur book until Emerson. In fact, I don't really like dinosaurs. But this is a pretty good one. What else would we expect from a Little Golden Book.
Pretty legit book. Love how the T Rex rhymes, a true renaissance dinosaur. Also was impressed by the fact that he could both acknowledge there have been were larger and faster land predators but confidently maintains his superiority while not coming off haughty. Also gave me the chance to make funny roaring noises and the prose lent itself to me being able to easily read in a funny voice, something Ella always loves.
Feb1, 2025: Finally got the chance to read it to dinosaur-loving grandson and he was not impressed. 😕 Oh well! Downgraded rating from 4 to 3 stars.
May 2, 2024: Really enjoyed reading it to myself, but again, the litmus paper test comes when I read it to the true carnivore-lover, my almost 3-year-old grandson. Actually, to call him simply a carnivore-lover is to greatly underestimate his current obsession with these ancient, oversized beings of terror and destruction. He cannot get enough of them! And the Sharp Teeth (name from the Land Before Time series) are the favorites!
Excellent drawings. I love the t rex and was hoping for a little classic t rex short arms joke...but it was absent so I took away one star. The story was cute...not much to it but it's a kids story.
I hope this counts against my Goodreads challenge. Because I read this baby cover to cover in under five minutes. Good main character development but lacked plot and climax. Still, will be forced to read again, 10/10.
"I'm a T-Rex" by Dennis R. Shealy earns four stars for its engaging storytelling and vibrant illustrations. Shealy's playful narrative and catchy rhymes captivate young readers, while the colorful artwork by Brian Biggs brings the T-Rex's adventures to life with humor and charm. The book's positive message about confidence and self-expression resonates well with children and parents alike, making it a delightful read-aloud experience. Although it may lack some depth in terms of educational content, its entertainment value is undeniable. "I'm a T-Rex" is a roaringly fun adventure that earns its four-star rating for its ability to captivate and entertain young audiences.
We read this through overdrive, the picture and the text are all over the place which is a shame. It's a bit of a problem with the digital copies of the little golden books.
I usually like a Golden Books experience, but this one.... not to well illustrated, not so sweetly written. I'm still sure it will be a hit with the 4-year-old nephew though.
It's cute, but pretty poorly written. It is a hope-giver to the unpublished authors of the world. If this book can be published your book can be published.
It's not very interesting but check this out when you are teaching your child about the letter T. It's not the type of book you get frequent requests to read though.
I read this one just about every night. It's my son's favorite! I believe my passion for all things ancient comes out when I read even about cartoon dinosaurs.
