I was surprised how well these two properties worked together. Vampirella teams up with Barnabas Collins to take down Lady Bathory and Jack the Ripper. Along the way they get some help from Pantha and Barnabas's werewolf cousin. Jack the Ripper could have been better written but Lady Bathory was a solid foil from folklore and history.

This was a fun little book, better than I expected. Sometimes crossover books just don't capture the characters correctly, but this one was well written. It's Vampirella and Barnabas Collins vs. Madame Bathory and Jack the Ripper in contemporary New York, with special guest stars Pantha and Quentin the werewolf. If you're not familiar with the franchises, that's okay; it's all pretty well explained. And there's a special surprise guest star vampire cameo at the end. The Vampirella/Barnabas team-up works well, and Quentin and Pantha get along extremely well. It was a good story, and the art is a little on the soft and foggy side but better than a lot you'll find from Dynamite. The vamps have aged quite well.

For those of you who don't know, Dark Shadows was a daytime soap opera on ABC-TV which aired weekdays during the afternoon. With vampires, witches, worlocks, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures, it became a surprising phenomenon, lasting for five years before it was cancelled. The show revolves around Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid), a guilt-ridden 175-year-old vampire who longs to be human again and returns to his estate after being chained inside a coffin for nearly 200 years.

I love Dark Shadows, I read The Dark Shadows vol. 1.:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

It was the first comic after the relaunch. And they didn't quite managed to capture Barnabas the way he is supposed to be. He's done some horrible things, and he is remorseful for that and tries to make up for it. He is not a mopy emo wuss, like there!

I'm happy to report that here, they finally got it right! Barnabas is back to his old self! A descendant of one of his old victims disappears, he vowed to watch over her descendants as a act or re-compensation. When he finds out about her disappearance, he goes out to look for her. That is how he and Vampirella meet. Together they face some well known and formidable foes. There are real vampires here, with lots of blood and gore.

To mention one final touch that impressed me. Barnabas possesses old world charm, manners and sensibilities, the way he did originally. And there are were-beasts here. They appear like they did originally. That was a really neat touch.

Also I must say that the artwork of this comic is a thing of beauty, absolutely stunning! Loved just looking at it.

This one surprised me. I wasn't sure what to expect from a crossover starring Vampirella and Barnabas Collins from the horror soap opera Dark Shadows, but they made a good pairing.

The art was sexy, which is a must for a Vampirella comic, but it also portrays horror well. This story was much darker than I expected, as I thought there may be some camp involved but it was mostly played straight.

The vampire Lady Bathory and her consort Jack the Ripper invade modern day New York and start claiming victims. Barnabas is a reformed vampire, and he has made a vow to protect the descendants of anyone he's harmed in the past. When Bathory attacks one of said descendants, Barnabus and his werewolf friend Quentin show up to investigate. (Rumor has it I may have been named after this character, but the rumors are unconfirmed.) So once they arrive in town, they hook up with Vampirella and Pantha (and in Pantha and Quentin's case the hook up is literal) and begin to investigate.

Plenty of horror, action, and sexy art. Fans of Dark Shadows and/or Vampirella should read this one!

Fun mashup of two vamps

This is a playful mashup of two famous vampires feeling through New York in search of a serial killer. They were brought together to promote two ongoing series for Dynamite Comics and the pairing works well. The aggressiveness of Vampirella paired with the haunted, gentlemanly behavior of Barnabas Collins works well and the campy, sexy situations they find themselves in only add to the overall fun. If I have one complaint,a it's that the series was too short at only five issues. I would like to have seen more interaction between the two protagonists and some deeper character development with the support players. But fun is fun and I had a blast reading this adventure.

Not bad, I liked it. I remember when it was being released in issue form, but my local comicbook store (Hastings Books), didn't ever get any of the issues; I actually kind of forgot about it, until a fellow BookTube brought it to my attention on social media.
The only problem I had with it is that Barnabas' personality is a little different and instead of his traditional black onyx ring, he wears a ruby ring, oh, and Quentin now has control over the curse of the werewolf now, which is actually kind of cool.
Now I want to read Vampirella vs Dracula.

If you are old enough to remember when Gold Key used to publish the Dark Shadows comic, then you may also recall that the writers had a rudimentary knowledge of the source material. At best. That tradition still lives in this volume. I will give them credit, however, at least here Barnabas did not display any "new found" powers. The artwork was adequate at best. If you take it all as escapism, it's not too bad, but if you are looking for Dark Shadows, look elsewhere.

Whoever came up with this deserves an award for Biggest Cajones. Jeez Louise, this was something else...! It is all so wrong that it has to be seen to be believed, especially the phantasmagorical mist that hovers over Pantha’s bare breasts in the bathhouse. The art is pedestrian house style, so don’t expect anything amazing there. That said, there are moments where Andreyko is doing some really good character work, but it’s all ultimately buried beneath boobs and blood.

Dark Shadows / Vampirella was ok I guess I was expecting more. Bandanas was very prudish and Quentin seemed like he was a 70s swinger, as far as the Vampirella part I haven't read enough of Vampi's comic to know if it's off base with the characters. Overall it was ok I didn't really care the style of the artwork. I would read another just because I like the Dark Shadows characters.

This got my attention simply for being a rare crossover with Dark Shadows. The plot is solid enough (if, well, dark), though I'm not quite sure about their portrayal of Quentin Collins, and there was a lot of gratuitous gore - which might fit the tone of Vampirella but didn't fit so well with classic Dark Shadows. (B-)

This was a crossover between the 'Dark Shadows' (1970s) T.V. soap opera fandom and that of famous comic hero Vampirella. In this story, the heroes combine forces to investigate a rash of murders and disappearances that have a distinctly supernatural touch to them. Barnabas Collins gets involved because a woman who is descended from one of his victims is killed. He has sworn to atone by protecting his victim's families, so he must solve her murder. Vampirella is involved because it's on her home turf. They fight for dominance and her fun nature clashes with his serious, old-fashioned one. They also have help from his cousin Quentin Collins and her fellow supernatural friend, Pantha. The murderers are both historical figures, which was a nice touch in a comic series arc about vampires playing detective. But the best thing about this series was it's sense of humor. It was consistently amusing, fast paced and kept me interested from beginning to end with no boredom at all. It was splashy, gory and colorful in the best way. The artwork was right alongside the written story, every step of the way. It never detracted from it or felt wrong/misplaced in any way. The perfect amount of camp was involved, especially when you consider that the main characters are a highly sexualized (practically nude) female vampire, and another vampire from a really cheesy, old soap opera. Yes, it was fairly predictable and left the door open for further crossovers. But in this instance, that was perfectly alright with me. I highly enjoyed it and it's definitely a clever read for comic lovers who want a bit of wit in their speech bubbles! :) But I will caution that there is copious amounts of blood, violence, nudity, and other adult content. So be forewarned if you're thinking of reading this one and that bother you. Overall, recommended to fans of good comics, whether they're familiar with the original fandoms that are rebooted, or not.

VERDICT: 5/5 Stars

Dark Shadows/Vampirella is the crossover story of two legendary vampires, Vampirella and Barnabas Collins (yes the vampire from that weird Dark Shadows movie with Johnny Depp) who are fangs deep in a gruesome murder mystery. It’s a fast-paced blood splattering thriller binding two unlikely heroes and one crazy goddess-vamp villain. Surprisingly enough, I loved this graphic novel much more than I expected.

A threat has awakened and women across New York are being slaughtered right under the cities nose. No one is safe, and it’s even more unfortunate if you happen to be a working woman walking alone at night. Our story beings with Collins and Vampirella on the case, both are seeking out leads on one missing girl in particular – a girl that hold ancient ties to Collins. When the two meet, as expected there’s an all out vampire brawl. Vampirella quickly gets a taste of the ancient and he is equally impressed with her reputation. And once fangs are retracted and blood settles, the two team up along with Quentin Collins and Pantha to uncover the mysterious deaths and stop the evil hell-bent on destroying the city.

Overall, I enjoyed the Dark Shadows and Vampirella crossover. It’s a fun, sexy quick-read with plenty of action and nonstop blood spatter to make you laugh out loud and maybe curse a little bit too. If you love violent tales and snappy one-liners, then I’m sure you find this compilation both satisfying and exceptionally entertaining.

Recommendation: Due to Extreme Violence, Nudity, and Graphic Content, This Comic is Recommended to Adults 18 and Over

As a fan of Vampirella since I was young (and by young I mean 14 years old), the cross between the Dark Shadows and Vampirella seemed like a great idea at first. The art is nice and the black contrasting with red gives a gloomy environment. I am glad my e-reader is a TFT screen, it allowed me to read the comic almost flawless, however when it came ot bigger sentences, I had to read it on Digital Editions.

Perhaps the fact that I have not read a comic (AmE comic) in years may have contributed to the fact that I found the pace rather quickly and the mystery was all solved quickly and almost without problems. The structure is right, but I found that the path was always opened to Vampirella achieve her goal. No traps, no issues – she had it too easily.

The gore and violence is amazing and Vampirella is still an awesome character. She contrasts nicely with Barnabas Collins (yes, you may know him from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows). You do not get an aura of danger through Collins, but you know how deadly Vampirella is. Also there are some scenes facing the villain and the victims that can give you chills.

If it weren’t for the speedy pace and if it had more development and you felt that characters did not have it easy, you can say that Dark Shadows crossover with Vampirella is overall a nice reading, but does not go any further than that. It is nice to revisit known characters with a nice worldbuild and good colours and atmosphere.

I'm new to either franchises. Dark Shadows, I only saw the Tim Burton adaptation, and Vampirella was a blood drenched figure haunting the comic early 90s comic book shelves I frequented for Marvel issues before they became hyperrealistic.

So I didn't have much coming in this tradeback. Not too bad. Not my thing, but seems a little more conventional in vampire traditions than most. A guest makes a surprise appearance, and hints at a greater story probably covered in other issues of Vampirella.

Just because it isn't my thing doesn't mean it isn't something you should explore for yourself.

A definite romp for fans of Dark Shadows, Vampirella, noir graphic novels, and vampire fans. Vamprirella is the prefect foil for stuffy Barnabas Collins as they hunt down one of the oldest vampires out there--Lady Bathory!

I haven't read Vampirella at all, but enjoy anything Dark Shadows and I enjoyed reading this collection. Looking forward to more of this crossover!
