The fallout from the devastation on Earth ripples outwards, all the way to Nebulos, where Grimlock faces his own dark demons and a fateful choice that may cost him his very Spark. The dark reign of Scorponok begins here, and nothing will ever be the same again!
Simon Christopher Francis Furman is a British comic book writer who is best known for his work on Hasbro/Tomy's Transformers franchise, starting with writing Marvel's initial comic book to promote the toyline worldwide, as well as foundations for both Dreamwave Production's and IDW Publishing's takes on the Generation 1 minifranchise.
I think here the story is getting bonkers and convoluted. Oh yes there is great action and character moments, but it seems rushed and as such plot holes abound. The art is not as evocative as in volume 1. Yet, its still a hell of a ride, and for that I will round up to four stars.
While I don't have quite as much excitement for this relaunched continuation of the original Marvel Transformers comic as I did for said comic back in the 1990s, I do admit to still enjoying these stories, continuing Simon Furman's plot lines from that time. He has a consistent vision and voice for these characters and he uses a lot of the older ones, which is somewhat heartening for a long time fan.
The story continues! Like the G2 comic it maybe kills characters off a little too briskly, but bonus points for using Grapple, one of my favorites--and not killing him...yet.
Some interesting twists on the concepts from the original Marvel comic, and some interesting developments in the brew for later. (Also, subtle Captain Britain reference.) Only nitpick is that Furman made some villains overly wordy (though at least he lampshades it). (B+)
