I See A Cat and See Me Run, two books written and illustrated by Paul Meisel, received the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award from the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association.
Potty training can be a challenge. YOU POOP HERE by Paul Meisel can help lessen a child's fear of using a potty: Elephants poop in the grass. Fish and alligator poop in the water. Where do you poop (and pee)? In the potty of course. In a starred review SLJ said about You Poop Here: "An excellent first purchase for anyone looking to expand their potty learning collection, and an ideal complement to Taro Gomi’s classic Everyone Poops."
Paul Meisel is also the author/illustrator of My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis (Holiday House Publishers) which was named by the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prizes as a 2018 finalist for best books of the year in the Children's Science Picture Books category. My Happy Year by E. Bluebird (about Eastern Bluebirds) and My Stinky Summer by S. Bug (about brown marmorated stink bugs) are two other books in this Nature Diary series.
Other books that Paul Meisel wrote and illustrated are: See Me Dig, See Me Play, Anna And Samia, and Good Night, Bat! Good Morning, Squirrel!

I don't typically rate easy readers my kids read to me, but when you 6year old finished this book. He looked at me with a big smile and said "I HAVE to read it again!" There is really not better compliment to a early reader book then that when a reader enjoys the story and wants to read it again. Vaulting to one of my favorite early readers!

This is a delightful little story! The language is very simple and repetitive but in a sparkling way as opposed to a boring repetition. The title is also the first line of the story. I read it and thought OH NO! Shades of Jane, Dick and Spot! But luckily that was the closest Meisel came to those dreadful stories. The hero of the story is a dog, natch. he and his dog pals have fun playing, getting dirty, getting clean (in a river) and having a wonderful time. Then they decide to dig. And dig. Until they uncover a surprising find which I'll leave to readers to discover. I don't know that this should have really gotten an award. I'm not sure it is quite that good. However, it was lots of fun and just the right book to hand a kid who is struggling to read and thinks it dull. They won't think that after finishing the book!

I do have one real complaint. Readers (books meant for the kindergarten through 2nd grade, tend to have a specific size and shape. That is how we space our library shelves, for the typical reader. This book is taller than the typical reader and won't fit on many libraries' reader shelves. Because of this, I'm leaving a great reader in the picture book area. It'll go out there, but it won't serve what should be its real audience, that of beginning readers, unless librarians stash it on top of the reader shelves or something. Couldn't publishers conform to traditional sizing since libraries are some of the largest purchaser of this category of books???

A dog enjoys an outing in the park where there's plenty of room to run, which all dogs seem to love to do. One dog becomes four, then eleven, then more, as they all chase the first dog and do all sorts of canine things, such as wallowing in mud, swimming in the water, and digging. But they are all in for a big surprise once their digging is finished. This is a simple text intended for beginning readers who will surely enjoy the story. The pen and ink, acrylic ink, and colored pencil illustrations celebrate the joys of living a dog's life.

Picture Book-Easy-to-read book
Geisel Honor Book 2012
Audience: PreK-1

- The book SEE ME RUN fits into this category because it is an easy-to-read book about a group of dogs that have a fun-filled day at the dog park. This specific book is perfect for beginner readers to successfully read and re-read time and time again.

- The illustrator did a good job on the composition of this book. There was a definite balance of the visuals between unity and variety as you are flipping through the pages. As a result, the illustrator did an outstanding job of creating visual patterns that were being carried from page to page.

- I would use this book in a whole-group setting in my classroom. I would arrange my students into a circle so we could all see and read the book. Then, I would read the first page aloud and pass it to the student to the left of me. That student would then read the next page and pass it to the next student. This would be great practice for students getting comfortable reading aloud and in front of their peers.

Everyone loves a book about dogs, what is cuter than dogs rolling in mud and swimming to take a quick bath before getting dirty again and digging in the dirt again. Somehow they ended up stumbling upon dinosaur bones as they are digging and the bones come to life and make the dogs run from him. It was an interesting turn of events at the end of the book, I wasn't expecting a dinosaur to come up in the story because the cover of the book is just a bunch of dogs. I like that the words were simple and repeating so that kids can read it and use it as a book to have under their belt for learning to read. I wish the book would have been longer or explained the dinosaur a little better, but other than that the book was really nice. This would be a great book to have in the classroom to test or teach kids to read with.

Genre: Picture Book - Geisel (easy-to-read)
Awards: Geisel (honors)
Source: Geisel Award Winners - http://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/...
Audience: Pre-K - K
Response:
This is a picture book because it is easy to read and the pages are filled to the edge with images. There is also little text and the main focus is on the illustrations.

The color of this book was the thing that I was drawn to. The illustrator did a good job at using bright and vivid colors to keep kids’ attention. The colors give off a happy, fun aura which coincides with the story about dogs running around and creatively exploring.

I would use this book to focus on action words because the author reiterates the verbs a lot in the text. I would use this with younger readers because the vocabulary is simple and the pictures are easy to follow.

The perfect book for all individuals that love dogs, ‘See me Run’ depicts the story of dogs loving to run. They run through mud, and after they run through water to get cleaned up. The dogs end up digging and digging and digging until they discover some fossil bones which then makes itself into a dinosaur and is mad which causes the dogs to run again. Perfect for little age groups, a book with rhythms and a minimal use of words will intrigue readers and want them to continue to figure out what the little dogs are up to next. ‘See me Run’ carries marvelous illustrations where children will be able to fully get a visual on what the dogs will be up to next. For anyone that likes to read, this will be the perfect book.

This was a short book about a dog playing with his other dog friends. They run and run and then they dig and dig and have some fun until they find something big.... then they run again.

I thought this book was cute. A very easy read and I think young kids would really enjoy it a lot.

I may have this book in my classroom for kids who are learning to read or much younger children. I think they would enjoy the excitement and surprise at the end of the story. Like I said, it is a very easy read and would be good for kids to practice their reading skills.

Meisel uses a lot of repetition through out the book as the dogs run and play. Beginning readers can benefit from the use of sight words that the book incorporates as well as the short and concise text on each page. As for the illustrations the book contains simple colorful drawing that add to the story as the readers can see what they are running from and when all of the dogs are playing in the mud. Readers can practice their reading and go on an adventure as the dogs run and play. In conclusion this book is a good read for early reader to practice and enjoy reading.

I very much enjoy the book. The book is very basic of that it shows a dog's perspective of what it finds in the park. This book reminds me of Mocha, my dog, and how he goes out for adventure to see new things he can find. The overall plot is simple of how dogs go to the park and play with other dogs until they find something big while digging and running. This book has simple sentences that can help students practice their reading. I really like the pictures of the dogs.

See Me Run is a very reasonable start for your emerging reader. Something that's important to note about his book, however, is that there are a fair number of sight words. There are also some complex vowels that may be easier to pick up on if your child knows the sight word, but harder if they do not. The words to primarily keep an eye out for and provide support with would likely be "come," "splat," "splash," and "again."

• 2012 Geisel Honor Book •

Very simple sentences with repetitive/reinforcing text with a focus on verbs. The dogs run and run, and go and go, and dig and dig, etc. The illustrations are bright and fun with a variety of dogs. Enjoyable! But felt a bit like the ending was abrupt?

Materials used: “The artwork was created with pen and ink, acrylic ink, and colored pencil.”

Typeface used: “Report School”

This is a very simple story about dogs. It tells the direct actions of the dogs, such as them running and digging. The story ends with the dog digging up a dinosaur. It has excellent graphic illustrations that children would love. It would be used best with students who are beginning to read as there are few words on the page.

A simple story young readers will be eager to finish! It's a story about the day in the life of a dog. He runs and his other dogs pals run, and run. They get dirty, take a bath and run some more. Then they dig up something unexpected. The words on the pages are few and are easy to read. I enjoyed this short story and the illustrations that accompanied it.

I thought this book was okay as well. Its still an extremely easy read which is good and has better complete sentences. I did think that the fact that the dogs find a dead animals bones that then comes alive and chases them is a little odd. The story was well illustrated and helped tell the story well.

This was recommended as a great book for early readers. My 6 year old is a decent reader, but struggles a lot with confidence and with pushing himself to try when things are hard. This book is a great confidence builder when used as an early reader, as it’s super easy, and he loved the illustrations too.

This is a delightful story about dogs running around and finding a whole lot of bones. I would give this book 3 out of five stars for its imaginative story telling an interesting plot when the T Rex comes in.

This book is about dogs playing by running around and chasing each other while enjoying each others' company. A good chunk of the words in this book rhyme, so it can be a book that would be fun to read for beginning readers.

I think this book would be good for younger kids at a lower reading level, because there are very few words and the words are often repeated. I liked the book, it wasn't anything special, but I did find the ending to be a little abrupt.
