Like My Sister the Vampire, these twins will have you howling with laughter! To their classmates, Daniel and Justin are identical twin brothers. But in fact they couldn't be more different. On their thirteenth birthday, one is destined to turn into a werewolf...! This full moon is going to change everything. Will Riley and Debi find out the boys' secret? And what will happen to the band?
Sienna Mercer grew up in Toronto, Canada. She was an only child, and always wanted a brother or sister – especially a twin. A twin would have been awesome! Sadly, she never got that sister so, when she was grown up, she did the next best thing - she wrote books about a girl who reminded her of herself, and gave her the most fun, fabulous twin she could think of!
Sienna began writing stories when she was a teenager, on a very wet day in Toronto when her cheerleading practice was cancelled - and she has not stopped writing since. She used to write in red leather notebooks while sat on her bed, but now does most of her writing in her attic, which is quite dark, and has some spooky cobwebs in the corners - the perfect location for thinking about vampires. She doesn't use red notebooks anymore, either, although she keeps them in a chest by her desk in the attic.
Sienna got the idea for My Sister the Vampire from a daydream she had - what if she had a super-cool twin sister... who was a vampire? She loved the characters - and their kooky friends and family - so much that she just had to keep writing about them.
When she's not daydreaming about vampires and cheerleading, Sienna enjoys travelling and exploring new cities, and keeps a detailed scrapbook of everywhere she’s visited. She lives in Toronto, kept company by Calypso and Angel – her two gorgeous cats. She is happily writing away and we wait for her upcoming books!
I picked this book up for my son (I know, everyone says that they buy these books for their kids, but I swear it’s true!) because he loves the R.L. Stine books. I found out, however, that he’s in the middle of 4 of them right now. Because I’m in-between books and werewolves are my great love in life, I said what the heck.
You know what? It was a neat little book. Even though I know it’s written for younger teens, it’s an engaging read for adults as well. The author treats her audience as if they’re intelligent, and that makes the book enjoyable. It seriously only took me 2 hours to read, but, not joking…I’ll buy the next in the series for myself!
The only “off” thing about the books is that the kids talk like and are involved in situations that make them seem 15 or 16 instead of 13 (absolutely no sex or swearing so appropriate for 12 and up). No big deal.
I really liked the book! I liked how the Dad thought it would be Justin that turned into the werewolf, but Daniel ended up being it and how he struggles with the ability at first. I really liked how Sienna Mercer makes tons of references to my sister the vampire through Debi. I also thought it was cute how Justin and Riley used to be just friends now they both have a crush on each other. I kind of want Daniel to admit it to Riley that he's a werewolf/human. I can't wait to read the second book Puppy Love!

I really liked this book, however both liked and disliked the fact that it is very similar to the My Sister the Vampire series. Daniel and Justin are pretty much the boy versions of Olivia and Ivy. Although I enjoyed the storyline of this book much more and you could feel the struggle of him trying to conceal his werewolf characteristics. This had a lot more exciting plot twist as well and completely disproves stereotypes which I thought was refreshing.
I've read this four times now, and it never fails to make me smile at the brothers' bond and laugh at all the jokes and hilarious situations. In my opinion, just as good as the My Sister the Vampire books - and just as hard to put down! I'm not saying that this book is absolutely perfect, but it's so fun and easy to read that I'm sure I'll keep reading it and loving it many more times in future!
Justin Packer has a secret kept so well, even his identical twin brother, Daniel, doesn't know about it. As a naturally athletic kid with a human mom and a werewolf dad, he's expected to wolf out on the first moon on or after his 13th birthday. He's looking forward to it, really. After all, the next day he's starting school at Pine Wood Junior High, and the football tryouts are right after school, and all the other boys on the offensive line are werewolves, too. It's part of what makes them hard to beat. Only ... when the moon rises that night, it isn't Justin who turns. And Daniel has no idea what's happening to him.
It's hard enough to be going through puberty, but "hair growth in unexpected places" isn't the half of it. Though one brother is into football and the other is trying to start a rock band, they have this much in common: when the girl they like is looking at them, they get tongue-tied. Only, in Daniel's case, his teeth and fingernails start to grow, his hands get hairy, and sometimes an uncontrollable howl escapes from his throat. He feels like a freak. Maybe you can relate.
The imagination that brought you "My Sister the Vampire" is at work again. In fact, there's even a character who moved from the town where all that middle school weirdness went down. And there's another gang of boys called the Beasts, only instead of lame-brained teenage Vampires, they're lupine (that means wolfen) jocks who hit hard on the field, munch extremely rare burgers and hear a lot of "Get a grip, cub" from their coach. So, while Daniel worries about whether his band's lead singer will figure out his secret, Justin just has to survive practices where his own teammates are scarier than the other side.
It's a cute, teen romance slash coping-with-the-changes-of-adolescence melodrama, with a strong dash of laughter and a goofy take on the paranormal. You'll probably roll your eyes a bit at the twins' cluelessness when it comes to talking to the opposite sex, but then reflect, how much better at it were you at their age? And as so often happens, you'll also wonder why everbody doesn't just tell the truth (for example, Justin to his teammates, Daniel to his bandmates, to say nothing of "louping" Daniel in on the family secret) but, I guess, things like being a werewolf probably are the sort of thing you'd keep under as tight a lid as possible.
It's book 1 of a quartet, which continues in Puppy Love!, Howl-oween! and Tail Spin. Don't forget to check out Sienna Mercer's sister/vampire series, which runs for 18 books and includes such titles as Stake Out! and Spooktacular!. And watch where you sling that garlic, or that silver necklace, or whatever. Some people might be allergic!
This is a good children's book. All in all, the story and its evolution isn't a big WOW, but it was good. Clearly, this series of books should be enjoyed by younger readers. Especially with the humorous side that can make your kids burst out laughing. For an adult it's good, but nothing more.
3rd time reading (probably, or more) It felt so good reading this. I needed it, I wanted to relax before summer break. One of my favourite childhood series with the Chronicles of Ancient dark times. Im biased but 5 ⭐️ always for this series!
Mercer Naries #1 My Brother the Werewolf #1 Werewolf tale for the younger readers is werewolf-lite and well pretty average and forgettable. Is there a really good werewolf series somewhere? Maybe I will find one - one day! (To be honest I never expected it to be this one!)
Yes i did like how the book was written because it showed STRONG detail as if i were in the book. The charaters were so funny and cool they all have there own way of fitting in :).My favorite part of the book was when debby thought justin was dainel because they are twins so debby did justin a manicure!I loved everything about the book. They should know theere is alot of romance and alot of weirdness going on in both of thrir lives so they should be excided its AMAZING!
I liked this book, it's funny how the twins help each other. Even though Justin didn't turn wolf, and Daniel did I like how their family came together to help Daniel get thru his first transformation.
