It is 1967 and there is an American soldier captured years prior by the Chinese, presumed KIA, brainwashed, and then with plastic surgery and training he now believes he is actually the American superspy Nick Carter, aka N3, aka Killmaster. The Chinese want to keep secretly fueling the conflict between India and Pakistan and need to eliminate the real Nick Carter for their plans to work. In mountainous Tibet they send their fake Nick Carter on murderous actions against CIA agents there with the hope that the REAL Nick Carter will respond, fall into a trap, and then be eliminated for good by the brainwashed doppelganger.

This is the 22nd installment of the Nick Carter Killmaster series and it was ghost-written by Manning Lee Stokes. Nick Carter the author is a pseudonym used by several authors writing for the series, with Nick Carter also being the name of the protagonist character, a superhero American James Bond-style agent.

Verdict: "Double Identity" isn't a very good episode of the Nick Carter series but has its moments. The first half's drug-induced time in the mountain sanctum is just awful but then he meets a fun character, the hard-drinking patriot Mike Bannion, when his mission takes him to Karachi in pursuit of his Chinese double and then he resorts to explosive actions when he finds how the Chinese have been carrying out their fiendish conflict escalation plans.

I only go through about 3 chapters, but those were either dull or stupid. I did not need to read more.

A nice rewrite of an old Pulp character. Recast more in the James Bond spy mode. Good quick men's adventure read. If you are looking for some fast paced action and adventure then this is a recommended read.
