Taking It As It Comes...For Always and Forever

Rate this book
Pragmatic Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Officer Anita Kidd, a child born to her underaged mother who had repeatedly been raped, has faced more challenges at age twenty-one than most people face in a lifetime. First, her mother was murdered, and her body burned when Anita was eleven. Then her maternal grandmother died when Anita was a sixteen-year-old college student. Finally, she and her younger brother were separated and forced into the Child Protective Services system until she aged out at eighteen. Nevertheless, Anita has waged a legal battle for custody of her brother, but was running out of money to pay her lawyer and save her only home. So, in addition to her day job as a county cop, she takes on a part-time job singing and playing her guitar with an up-and-coming band at a new Rodeo Drive hot spot.

When Miguel Menendez-Gaza was six, his mother, Anna, and nine-year-old sister, Angelique, literally walked or hitch-hiked from their small town in Peru to Washington, DC. When they arrived, they found that Miguel’s father had been murdered and burned in a boarding house fire. If it weren’t for a group of law students, he, his mother, and his sister might have perished in a blizzard in the capital city. Now Miguel is twenty-four, a multimillionaire, the recipient of several Academy Awards for his movie roles, current high-fashion modeling appearances for the top clothing designers, and recurring roles in both daytime and nighttime television dramas. As if he weren’t busy enough, he’s starting to do something with his musical talent and aspirations.

When Anita and Miguel met at a music rehearsal, it was all over but the shouting. Their voices blended like Ashford and Simpson or Peaches and Herb. Yet, someone from their past is trying to silence their sweet sounds.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and enjoyed very much. Hazel needs time to recharge and restart her life. So she heads to a resort on the Oregon coast for a much needed paid holiday. It doesn't take her long to get charmed by the locals and start rethinking her life especially when it seems her old life has found her. This series has something for everyone, suspense, drama, mystery, humour and romance. This combination of author and narrator creates pure enjoyment.

Ann Jeffries does it again with this next-in-series (Book 25!) of the FAMILY REUNION-WISDOM OF THE ANCESTORS romantic suspense series. I adore the Alexander-Montgomery Family. Their stories populate the early books in this series. With Taking It As It Comes...For Always and Forever we have a fresh new vibrant story where the members of the family from the original stories are adjacent to the action.
Pragmatic Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Officer Anita Kidd is living a life that is all about her younger brother in foster care. She is also hellbent to discover who murdered her dear mother so many years ago. An event that tore her family apart and forever changed the course of Anita's life.
Miguel Menendez-Gaza emigrated to the US from Peru as a small boy with his family. Now he is one of the biggest international celebrities the world has ever seen. Yet, we meet him in a quandry; he wants meaning in his life and to be of service to others.
When Miguel and Anita meet during a rock band music rehearshal, sparks fly. Maybe Cudahy, CA is the center of the Universe after all!
This audiobook was such fun to record. Certainly all the luxe and glamour that we expect from an Ann Jeffries' novel is here, but for me it was a delight to record a story that takes place almost entirely in LA and its surroundings. I could actually picture the highways and byways, the beaches and the clubs that Ann imagines for us. Jeffries always takes us to new worlds to explore via the characters. In particular, the various cuisine's described in Taking It As It Comes...For Always and Forever had my mouth watering in almost every recording session.
My favorite aspect to Taking It As It Comes...For Always and Forever has to be the suspense. Both Miguel and Anita are in the middle of a whodunnit. The detailed world of the Los Angeles Sheriff's department and of Miguel's tightly secured celebrity world make for a zigzagging mystery that kept me guessing all the way to the final pages. I could not wait to get back into the recording booth to find out if they would catch the culprits.

I loved recording this book for this outstanding romantic suspense author and my friend, Ann Jeffries. We have a long history together and I am proud to add this title to our audiobook library.
