The close-up photos are excellent quality with a minimum of background distraction, so the reader's eye is drawn to the insect. A few photos have parts labeled, the ear, eggs, egg tube, and old skin which are very helpful. The other photos do not generally support the text, one could change around the photos and it would not affect the facts given. The photos do not support the text, they are just great closeups of various crickets.
The statement "Each kind of cricket has his own song." may be confusing to young readers as no information about the various kinds is given. The table of contents identifies the pages for parts, glossary, index and to "Learn More", but a whole chapter called "A Cricket Song" does not help the reader locate specific information.
