Right at the beginning of this series, you might remember, the people (if you will call intelligent lizards that) of Topid had very nearly succeeded in destroying Earth. Because of a small inaccuracy in their data they ended up destroying a planet in the Vega system instead.

That was 70 years ago, and now suddenly, we are at New Year's Eve 2043, Perry remembers that they know about Earth’s position almost exactly. Atlan is shocked. How can you forget something like this? And what if the Topides tell the Robot Regent?

What to do? Fly to their home planet and destroy all evidence of the event and make the people (lizards) that are still around forget about it. Why, after all, do we have mutants who are able to do such a thing?

Luckily, they succeed, although they do lose their magnificent space ship, the Kublai Khan and a couple of hundred of the crew.

I actually liked this book for a change. Brand tells the tale lightheartedly. And for one thing, Reginald Bell is described in a way that makes him come alive. There is also the mentioning of Rhodan’s son Thomas Cardiff, whom Rhodan wants to be court-martialed. I am looking forward to this becoming the main thread.
