David Boon's Funniest Sporting Moments: Hilarious mishaps and moments from our favourite sports: Hilarious mishaps and moments from our favourite Aussie sports

Rate this book
A hilarious collection and anecdotes and memories from one of Australia's best loved sports stars, David 'Boonie' Boon.

Australian cricketers have always liked to keep in shape. It's just that a lot of the time that shape is a circle. When Shane Warne waddled out to play South Africa in the 1997 Boxing Day test, his physique wasn't exactly streamlined, but his competitive spirit was still in fine shape.

'I've waited two years for another chance to humiliate you,' he growled at his 'bunny', batsman Daryl Cullinan.

The bunny looked Warne up and down. 'Looks like you spent it eating'.

David Boon has played 100 Test matches, scoring 7000 runs and taking 0 wickets. And, yes, he had the game's best mo.

But did you know he spent his years playing international cricket collecting hilarious tales of sporting highs and lows?

Now, for the first time, he has collected together almost 200 of his favourite stories across a variety of sports and has created this book to share them with you!

Sit down, pour yourself a drink and enjoy being regaled by the legend himself.

David Clarence Boon MBE (born 29 December 1960) is an Australian cricket match referee, former cricket commentator and international cricketer whose international playing career spanned the years 1984–1996. A right-handed batsman and a very occasional off-spin bowler, he played first-class cricket for both his home state Tasmania and English county side Durham.

Known for his portly figure and distinctive moustache, Boon scored more than 7,000 runs at Test level, and made more than 100 appearances for both the Test and One Day International Australian side.

After leaving the international game he went to England to captain Durham before retiring to become a national selector. In May 2011, it was announced that Boon would be standing down from his position on the selection board, and as general manager of Cricket Tasmania, to become an ICC match referee, replacing Alan Hurst on the ICC Elite Panel. He made his test debut as a match referee on 1 September 2011 in a one-off test between Zimbabwe and Pakistan at Bulawayo.

I thought we might have moved on from these kind of books. it did have some funny bits but a lot of the humour was puerile and immature. Still I read it. I left my copy in a hotel in Palermo, Sicily, and I expect it'll end up on a bookshelf in the guest lounge. What guests will make if it is anyone's guess.
