A collection of sensual photographs from renowned fantasy artist Boris Vallejo, "Bodies", showcases the strength and beauty of the human body. 105 photos, 20 in color.
Boris Vallejo is a Peruvian-born American painter. He immigrated to the United States in 1964, and he currently resides in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Vallejo works almost exclusively in the fantasy and erotica genres. His paintings have graced the covers of dozens of science fiction paperbacks and are featured in a series of best-selling glossy calendars. Subjects of his paintings are typically Sword and sorcery gods, monsters, and well-muscled male and female barbarians engaged in battle. His latest works still retain heavy fantasy elements, but lean more towards the erotic rather than pure fantasy themes.
Photography of human bodies by Vallejo. He highlights in his intro that he doesn't favour glamour shots, hence few shots contain faces, or rather faces looking at the camera. Those that did, did come across as more glamour shots, and were the worse for it. This also applied for those that weren't bodybuilders - maybe there was fair overlap here. Most shots were of bodybuilder physiques and most were also women. The ones of Julie Bell worked the best, as did those using props such as knives, swords and ropes (though Vallejo also remarked that he preferred not to fall back on those), as together with the poses they would evoke the base imagery of his fantasy paintings.
