The chapters are a little long for my liking, but there is a lot of good truth. However, I do not agree with everything because the author has Calvinist views.
DNF It might be a good book in subject matter, but stylistically it was so tedious to wade through. I quit after a few chapters.
I was attracted to the title because I'm going through a bit of an emotional / mental slog and I thought it might help to uplift my spirit. But I could not pull myself through the text. Maybe I'll try again some day.
Dear religious writers: Just because the text you're writing is religious in nature doesn't mean it HAS to be written with cardboard personality and zero fervor. And unfortunately, this is something I'm finding over and over with religious books. It's possible to discuss a serious subject with a bit of zest. But, I suppose it's also possible that my spirit isn't ready and needs a bit more preparation.
This took me a really long time to read but I’m glad I finished it. Really challenging and cuts to the core of our Christian faith and if it really matters to us. We must actively fight for joy in today’s society and that is a poignant reminder for me in my own walk with the Lord. It’s worth persevering and getting to the end!
