Though the poems range in subject and tone from serious to whimsical, this is an odd, offbeat, but altogether terrific collection that pulls off the trick of somehow being both light-hearted and profound. Some of the pieces read as utterly forgettable until the last line, which inspired me to go back and read them again. Plus, Rosenthal included quite a bit of humor in here, a relative rarity in modern poetry which I always appreciate when I find it.
