Putting the World to Sleep

Rate this book
A soothing lullaby poem introduces gentle images, such as a big dog drowsing by the fire, a mother humming, and a baby yawning, as it helps tired youngsters fall asleep.

The pictures in this book were amazing and full of detail. I loved how lines were repeated and built upon other lines. The languages had a quality of music to it and when read out loud, it was calming.

Summary:

This story is about the idea of nighttime and what occurs during that time. It is a witness to everything slowly shutting down: a baby, mother, dog, fireplace, trees, stars, crickets, moon all work together for the description of night coming and the world in every detail falling asleep.

Response:

This book is a great book for young children and I could see it as a good bedtime story. It repetition and great pictures help for readers to easily follow along and visualize what the story is talking about. I would give this book a 1.5 out of 5 because it does not really give any relevance other than it is a good story to use at nighttime. I enjoyed that it used such things as repetition and that the ideas and the people were very relatable and easy to depict, but I do not think that it has a lot of relevance in the classroom regarding lessons.

Nice illustrations. Repetitive rhyme wasn't especially enjoyable, though -- just repetitive. Didn't make my little one sleepy... but then again, nothing else does either! :-)
