This is the mass market edition of the popular book by Dr. Ben Carson whose inspiring story tells of a frustrated inner-city kid whose faith in God helped him become director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital.
This book was so inspirational! It walks you through the live of Dr. Carson as well as providing you with information on how to be successful within your own career. As someone who is wanting to go into the medical field I found it a great read. It is a very light read and took me about three days to finish. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a book about someone who has faced many odds and still came out on top.
I wanted to love this book, and at the beginning I thought I would. His story of pushing himself (as well as his mother pushing him) to be the best he could be despite circumstances was inspiring. Becoming a doctor, landing his dream job at his dream hospital, etc. Then the case stories started, while I am glad he has had success in that regard, I was expecting more to his story than just case file after case file.
A truly fascinating story about a fascinating man. One whom accomplished a lot in his lifetime. One of the most amazing things was how he got to where he is now from where he began. Pivotal moments where his life could’ve been over due to a choice. His mom is THE real MVP in this, such an amazing woman that did the absolute most she could to keep herself together and support her kids.
This book was really good. I liked it a lot. I thought the beginning was kind of slow going, but that's okay because it talks about his real life and his entire childhood. Once he becomes an adult it picks of speed, and a lot of exciting and suspenseful things happen. There are some sad parts and some really amazing parts. Overall, it was a pretty good book.
This was such an inspiring book. It is one of the first things that inspired me to want to be a doctor and help people. I first read it last school year, and I decided to read it again to refresh my memory. It really makes me want to work hard in school and to learn and gain as much knowledge as possible. Such an inspiring read, especially for a teen! I highly recommend it.
This man was heavily used by God and it’s beautiful to read about. Getting to see just a few of the many interesting/difficult cases he had as a neurosurgeon and the reality that they weren’t all successful was just so beautifully humbling.
Amazing story about dr Ben Carson who was one of the first neurosurgeons in the world who got trained in the John Hopkins institute and also worked briefly in Australia who worked with a team of doctors who happened to separate the Siamese twins successfully without any complications!!
Probably a 4.5 for me. Very inspirational and action packed enough to keep my attention. The middle section was a little bit repetitive to me but overall very good!
