Sir Michael Andrew Morpurgo, OBE, FRSL is the author of many books for children, five of which have been made into films. He also writes his own screenplays and libretti for opera. Born in St Albans, Hertfordshire, in 1943, he was evacuated to Cumberland during the last years of the Second World War, then returned to London, moving later to Essex. After a brief and unsuccessful spell in the army, he took up teaching and started to write. He left teaching after ten years in order to set up 'Farms for City Children' with his wife. They have three farms in Devon, Wales and Gloucestershire, open to inner city school children who come to stay and work with the animals. In 1999 this work was publicly recognised when he and his wife were invested a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to youth. In 2003, he was advanced to an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature (FRSL) in 2004. He was knighted in the 2018 for his services to literature and charity. He is also a father and grandfather, so children have always played a large part in his life. Every year he and his family spend time in the Scilly Isles, the setting for three of his books.
Another Cracker from Michael Morpurgo about a fourteen year old orphan boy Johnny Trott who worked as a Bell boy at the Savoy, and inherited a Cat called Kasper, eventually both ended up on the Titanic, did they survive and if so what happened after, highly recommend read it and find out.
Kasper Prince Of Cats by Michael Morpurgo is a most delightful children’s historical novel that I loved. It is suitable for ages eight years and over. This book will educate you as you read. It is set at the Savoy in London in spring of 1912. The action continues into April where the characters board the ill-fated Titanic on its maiden voyage to New York – and we all know how that ended! Kasper is the star of the show. He is a regal black cat, all the way from Russia. Although beautiful, he is also aloof until he decides where his loyalties lie! The story is seen through the eyes of a fourteen year old bellboy and told in the first person. He is hard working and dependable. I thoroughly enjoyed Kasper Prince Of Cats. It is a charming book that will delight cat owners and their children, throughout the years.
This is a good book. I think that this book has a good story and a good plot with it, but the story is a little repetitive. The characters’ feelings and the characters themselves have the same kind of personalities. This book has a lot of good stuff such as the plot and the story. The characters and their emotions also change sometimes but other than that I gave this book 4 stars. Still worth reading!
I liked this book a lot because it's really cool and I like it even more because it has the Titanic in it, which I had learned about at school (I., my 7 year-old daughter).
Read this in year 5/6 as we had to pick a book and read it mostly picked it because it was about a cat but honestly a really good book with a great plot and would probably read again
Hermoso libro, es ligero y fácil de leer. Me lo mandaron para el profesorado y la verdad que me enganché desde el primer momento. Lo leería otra vez pero me encantaría tenerlo en fisico :(
I love it because the pictures of the titanic where really good but also I love cats and the titanic as it is so beautiful and it’s so cool and good how they are able to put it into a child book
