Steven Banks has numerous writing and acting credits. He has been a head writer for several Nickelodeon series including "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron", "The Fairly Odd Parents", "CatDog", and "Sponge Bob Square Pants". His play, "Love Tapes," co-written with Penn Jillette (of Penn and Teller fame), was recently performed at the Sacred Fools Theater in Hollywood. And he created, wrote, produced, and starred as himself in "The Steven Banks Show," a comedy series which aired on PBS in the 90s.
Once again we have a very silly Spongebob book that gets my 5 yr old interested in reading by himself. It's got a lot of works and difficulty-wise, it's probably at least a level 2 reader. The story is typical for Spongebob but endearing for his fans. A great read for a kid who likes Spongebob who you're trying to encourage to read more. My son gets so excited lately when he sees a Spongebob or Curious George book!
I very rarely ever give SpongeBob books more than a 3 star, but this one I felt deserved more than the others. It wasn't 'hyper' nor degrading to one another etc. SpongeBob wanted his friend Patrick to go to the circus with him. But when Patrick gets sick he wants SB to stay with him but SB doesn't and goes onto the circus. But while he's there he tries to enjoy all the neat things he's never seen but then starts feeling guilty about his friend not being there with him. So he leaves the circus and goes to Patricks house and puts on his very own circus for him! Remembering all the things he saw he recreated so his best friend could enjoy it too. A very touching storybook of friendship and love for your friend.
This story is weird, it's like its teaching kids they shouldn't be allowed to have fun if their friends can't come. SpongeBob goes to the circus while Patrick is sick, Patrick wants SpongeBob to stay home and get sick with him, then SpongeBob feels guilty for leaving Patrick and goes home to entertain him. It's kind of stupid.
I can't understand what my son likes about Spongebob Squarepants, especially since he's only seen one episode that I can recall, but he chose this book and we read it so...
