One of the best books ever written about cops, the calls they handle, the people they deal with, how they feel about their job, their supervision and administration, and each other. Brutally honest and insightful. Anyone that wants to be a cop should read this book, and anyone serving as an officer in a law enforcement agency will appreciate the "no BS" approach and attitude of the author.
The author was rather crass and crude in retelling stories from his time with the LCPD, and he seemed far too intent on making sure the reader understood that he was tough. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the snapshots of police work and crime in my city spanning 2 decades. Some of the stories were tragic, some funny, some disgusting, but for the most part this book was both fascinating and entertaining. I especially appreciated that the author seemed genuine and honest--I don't doubt the veracity of his tales.
