Marillion: Separated Out... Redux

Rate this book
Marillion first formed, as Silmarillion, in 1978. Casual observers might believe the band fell into obscurity after the departure of vocalist Fish in 1988. However Marillion thrive to this day, prospering outside the mainstream and enjoying a perhaps uniquely close relationship with a devoted audience. This meticulously researched biography explores Marillion's refusal to compromise either music or ideals, and the continued popularity of one of Britain's most enduring rock bands."

You do not need to be a fan to enjoy this book, but if you are, it helps.

The book successfully captures the essence of the band using extensive comments and quotes from the band members. The continual use of quotations gave the book authenticity, but at the price of losing the narrative flow.

As a fan of the band, the book provides a much appreciated insight into the process of song and album creation and the workings of the broader music industry. Better still was the sheer joy of the band members in creating and performing their art.

An enjoyable read providing fan and non fan with heartfelt and real world experience of how difficult it is to generate and sustain success.

An excellent and well documented book about Marillion, with lots of details. The last part of their story is a bit boring, but that's probably because they got a more stable situation, which is good. It was also nice the last appendix, descrbing the side projects of every member but it felt weird that their biography pre-Marillion was on the same section. I would gladly pay a few buck more to a better edition though, the paper was kind of cheap and the pictures looks taken form a home printer. Anyways, a great reading for any Marillion fan.

Well researched, well written, it’s probably the best book anyone could read on this subject. Every chapter made me want to go and listen to the albums again.

Go listen to Marillion, and read this book! :-)

Está muy bien, pero faltan fotos. Un libro como este necesita fotos. Muchas. Es parte de su carácter documental. Por lo demás, bien. Abarca hasta 2011, con lo que podría llegar, en algún momento, una edición re-redux.
