Naima is a young girl from New Orleans, Louisiana working in the drug underworld for an up and coming kingpin. She shares a hate/love/hate relationship with him and couldn't tell if she hated the love or loved the hate. One day she was presented with an opportunity to make more money, but she would have to also bite the hand that fed her in order to accept the offer. What Naima thought was making a little easy money spirals into a web of deceit and births new devilment when her friends Anissa and Mika enter the equation. Evils lurking in the background are focused on one task- to destroy the lives of many.
“Black Fire” is the debut novel by Drusilla Mars. It is the story of three friends who lives are changed forever after pulling off a heist together. The aftermath of which proves deadly.
“Black Fire” started off a bit slow but quickly picked up. I loved that readers get a feel for the Louisiana culture. The setting is vividly described. The storyline flowed well but if you’re not paying attention, you will miss a major key point! I believe that the main character, Naima, was lost in the shuffle and seemingly forgotten by her friends. I hope we get to see more of her in the sequel. Anissa and Zeus’s story was beautifully told and I’m looking forward to reading about what happens with them as well. There was drama, suspense and action. There are also plenty of twists and turns that will hold your attention. Overall a great debut! I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this author
This is actually my first read by this author and I must say she didn't disappoint. From Naima involving her best friends with a lick that she eventually ended up missing behind. Anissa was the only one of the three that actually had high hopes and wanted more out of life for herself. Mika seemed like the one that could care less and just went with the flow without thinking. I see Zeus was nothing to play with! Deadre was straight about her business. When it came to Lisa, all I can say is who would've known! I can't wait to see how Zeus handles everything and makes the people responsible for his sisters death pay!
Wow!! This book was really good. The story line and everything was on point. Drama, deceit, and everything you can possibly think of happens in this book. From start to finish it was good. Drusilla Mars did an excellent job with this book. Can't wait for part 2.
