He doesn't know his name, he doesn't know who he is, and neither does the werewolf he's on the run with. But he's pretty sure they hunt monsters, because they seem to be really good at it.

Like a pornographic version of Supernatural, only without the awesome sound track and the incestuous overtones.

It's Derek and Stiles taken out of Beacon Hills given amnesia and figuring themselves out to be a Winchester like duo. With added sexy-times.

There's not a lot of plot or tension aside from the memory loss but I loved the two working things out -wrongly- and getting together -hot- and with more emotion than a porn tag would suggest.

The end is emotional and promises good things, not as abrupt as some of entanglednow's can be this felt right, though I greedily wanted a little more I was happy with where we left them.

Gif attack:

'Nuff said.

Well, except to say that's it's more erotic than pornographic. Still...nice.

A well written, and plotted story. Nicely complex, and a nice change of pace from some of the fluffier nonsense.

I’m currently in the midst of an epic Sterek streak! It could be random luck, but I like to think that I’ve finally established my specific Sterek preferences, paired with the fact that I’ve also become familiar with such a wide range of fanfic authors, that I’m now able to identify which ones will effectively provide me with the kind of stories I want to read. entanglednow is one of these authors.

This fic is essentially a double-whammy memory loss tale, and it doesn’t dilly dally - it kicks off with a bang! Stiles wakes up in the woods with no recollection of who he is, or why he’s there. It’s quite a perplexing situation to be in. Plus, he’s surrounded by dead bodies. Eek! Not only that, but nearby a battle to the death is in full swing - between, what Stiles swiftly deduces to be, a witch and a werewolf. He takes this all in stride (very quickly having a “holy shit werewolves and witches are real” moment) and acts on impulse by jumping into the fray to help the werewolf defeat the witch. It’s instinct, pure and simple. It turns out, the werewolf (Derek, duh) also has no clue who he is or where they are, but he trusts Stiles; senses that he is familiar and not a threat.

Here begins an awesome tale of how two guys, who have no memory of their lives or one another, instinctively trust each other (and only each other) in order to work together to solve their memory loss mystery, while also kicking wiccan ass, saving countless lives and, in the process, falling in love. Naaww!!

I really enjoyed this fic. In fact, it’s one of the best I’ve read. I say this because it’s stuck with me. I finished two days ago but haven’t been able to get it out of my head since. That, in itself, warrants my praise. It didn’t possess the humour and constant snark that I usually enjoy so much, but it had some major feels and some sweet, sweet loving - and it ended on such a hopeful note that I can’t help but want more!

Wow. I don't know why this hit me in the gut so hard but it did.

Stiles and Derek find themselves with no memory of themselves or their lives. However they instinctively know they're on the same side and logically assume they are romantically involved.

That premise right there made it a winner in my book. Despite knowing nothing of their own personal history, they are drawn to each other, take refuge with each other, fitting together so perfectly.

It doesn't hurt at all that in and amongst the UST and wonderful smex, the intimate private times are weighted with significance as well as portent. There is the real question of whether to stay blissfully ignorant in their happy bubble or to return to their lives perhaps risking all they have gained. What to do, what to do....

Gawd this had great voice and was paced beautifully. It had just enough gravitas to be affecting, leaving a lasting impression.

A definite high point in impressive storytelling. Sigh.

Entanglednow has fast become a five star Sterek author for me. By Any Other Name, much like the author’s other works, is relationship centric with any subplot primarily in the backseat while the relationship drives the story. Derek and Stiles are much more grounded in this author’s works than other Sterek’s I’ve read and possess much more depth than other fandom authors, as well as their MTV creators, usually spend on them. Entanglednow’s Stereks portray interpersonal relationship exceptionally and are well written, as is this one. All that I have come to expect from this author is delivered consistently in their works, and By Any Other Name is not an exception.

On to this specific fan fiction … Derek and Stiles are on the run, hunting witches and have amnesia. This one almost didn’t make my TBR from it’s synopsis. I was worried that the “have amnesia” aspect would be hard to pull off without making it silly. But I shouldn’t have doubted Entanglednow’s imagination. What the amnesia aspect did was allow Derek and Stiles to fall in love with out the hold backs that are their tragedy ridden lives and their often adversarial camaraderie . The amnesia parked the mounds of baggage these two would bring to any relationship on the curb and allowed their intrinsic personalities to drive off together. Some readers may hate this aspect, because removing their past did remove a lot of the tension, but what it also did was allow them to simply be them. It allowed there personalities to be free of their past, making the story read like an AU fan fiction set with in a canon fan fiction. I enjoyed all the assumptions they made about themselves - who they must be and what their relationship is - and how confident they were in their estimations - giving a purity to their love that no matter their circumstances - to them the obvious conclusion was to be together. This “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” aspect is carried through the majority of the story and I did enjoy the sweet ride, even as it came to a halt when their memories are returned. The subplot is rather anti-climatic and more of a device to keep the two occupied, while the majority of the tension pulls taut at the ending, when they must face the reality of reconciling who they have been, who they thought they were and who they want to be.

My only complaint is I could have appreciated a longer ending - more of an exploration of how the sheriff and their friends would react to their relationship. But, none-the-less, this is one of my favorites. Derek and Stiles loving freely without the burden of their pasts and still loving even when their memories crash the party.

Derek and Stiles lose their memories. They just assume that they must be boyfriends, while trying to figure out who they are.

It didn't really drew me in and I ended up skimming some of it. Sexy times were nice, though.

Not bad, not bad at all. It has a plot, it has sex (with scent-marking, woop!), the writing is decent... But overall it was a rather bland read for me. Stiles and Derek both suffering from amnesia could've led to way more entertaining situations and dialogue than it did here. Instead the emphasis was on Stiles having scored 'a very hot werewolf bf', a sentiment that's repeated throughout the story.

I'm afraid the plot didn't capture me much and I ended up skimming to the end. I guess I missed the usual spark of Stiles' personality here and Derek didn't feel quite right either. The sex felt a bit 'recycled' and, considering their dynamics in this story, Derek suddenly ..

Just personal impressions, of course.

ETA: just realized Milkshakes and Matchsticks is by the same author. Weird, in that one Stiles' personality sizzled brilliantly.:)

Stiles and Derek don't remember who they are but they're pretty sure of two things.

That they're monster hunters.

And that they're boyfriends.

That sounds about right.

3.5 stars. Derek and Stiles lose their memories while fighting a group of witches and assume that they are boyfriends. Well-written but I got a little bored and skimmed some.

"Great, I'm a werewolf with an underage boyfriend." Derek glares at himself in the mirror. He looks like he does that a lot.

"A grumpy, werewolf with an underage boyfriend - " Stiles realises what he's saying, somewhat belatedly. "Hey, whoa, wait, why am I your boyfriend?"

Derek looks at him like he's an idiot.

In Stiles's words. Very accurate.

But also there's a whole different type of tension and pain than in SPN, and it's a little more subtle than you'd expect and surprisingly heartwrenching. The story feels a little incomplete, there are gaps that are never filled, but it's written with a skill that leaves you satisfied all the same.

Stiles and Derek wake up in the forest without their memories. It is obvious:
- They are monster hunters like Sam and Dean
- They are boyfriends

Of course they are!

Insert sexy times.

Okay, first of all...what the eff was up with that anti-climactic climax? That's like a War of the Worlds level Deus Ex Machina. It just...happens. Considering the rest of the story is filled with BAMF Stiles kicking butt and smashing heads, well, I'm a little disappointed. Thus, the only 4-star rating.

The rest of it is solidly 5-star writing. Holy hell... the emotional angst and feelz. The sex is spectacular (*fanself* Note: Stiles IS 17 in this, so Under Age Warning). Of course it could have been just that much better with the actual Derek bottoming scene instead of just mentioning it...but minor quibble. My heart hurt for these guys near the end because I could just see what was gonna happen and how things were gonna change. Stiles' fear of re-learning who they were was palpable.

Gah, why oh why oh why didn't we have writers this good work on the actual show? The acting talent was there FFS. The whole cast could have pulled off better story-lines...

This was a very good story. This is a Sterek fanfiction story. For those of you that don't know...Sterek fanfic is based off 2 male characters, Stiles and Derek, from the TV show Teen Wolf. In the show they're both heterosexual but some viewers have fantasized about them together in a m/m relationship and thus Sterek was born. This story takes place in an undetermined world that seems to be part of the TV show but since Derek is still an Alpha it had to be sometime early in the show.

Basically this story is about Derek and Stiles working together against witches and then loosing their memories in the middle of a fight and having to figure out what's what. Stiles' first instinct is to help the werewolf (Derek) against the witches and Derek lets Stiles help him while injured so it becomes apparent they know each other and trust each other. They don't know who else they can trust though and something makes them think that phoning some of the names in Derek's phone might be a bad idea. They figure out that they were hunting a warlock that's been killing children to power a magical amulet and decide the best course is to keep doing that (after all, kids are getting killed and as far as Stiles and Derek can tell they're some sort of monster hunters whose job it is to stop this stuff). Stiles and Derek also decide that they're boyfriends (due to their mutual trust and the strong attraction and familiarity between them) and once they get some time to get used to the idea they settle in to the relationship pretty well. They do manage to accomplish their task but there is a bit of drama when Stiles and Derek get their memories back. Thankfully, they aren't willing to give up what they found and the story ends with a Stiles and Derek starting their HEA.

This was a really enjoyable story. The story takes place almost entirely during the period that Stiles adn Derek have amnesia and it was actually kind of nice seeing them on their own without Scott and the others being part of the story. Also, Stiles was a little different but I liked it...I think it's because he had more confidence in himself because he thought he had a different background from what he actually had. Overall, this was a very interesting and good story that now makes me wish they'd do a spin-off show from Teen Wolf with Derek and Stiles being Monster hunters...like a combo of Supernatural and Teen Wolf. Yeah, that would be kickass and this story could totally be the start of that. :D

* note - I listened to the podcast of this and I liked it. The narrator did a very good job although there were a few editing issues.

11/2/15 - Reread of this story and I still really liked it. :D

The writing was good, I liked the idea for the storyline - the beginning was pretty exciting, the ending was great, but the middle dragged a bit for me. There wasn't really a lot happening in some parts and I was wondering when SOMETHING was going to happen. The stuff with Frain was a bit anti-climatic. But the Stiles & Derek together-time, oh yeah that was still SO GOOOOD.

I've read a few other FFs by entanglednow and I've really enjoyed them so I was starting to think I'd found one I wouldn't like, but then the ending was much better and it made me forget about the bits that were a bit slow earlier. :) I still would have liked a bit more out of the ending though...maybe seeing the pack's responses would have finished it up a bit more. Still, it was a fun read for a couple of hours. I like to use sterek ff like a palate cleanser between books! lol ...and this fit the bill quite nicely. :)

Mother fucken swoon. Just the right length. I loved the Sterek, even though you knew things were gonna come to a head. Good climax and resolution. Love me some feelz. And the sex. Absolutely zero complaints!

I do wish there was a little more explanation about what Stiles and Derek's relationship was before the amnesia. There were a lot of assumptions but we never really got an answer But were they off fighting witches together without telling the Pack? Or did Stiles go on his own and Derek went after him? We never find out any of the events that lead up to Stiles and Derek being out there together.

This fic is just as good as I remembered it being. I love the thought that on just a basic level Stiles and Derek are just drawn to each other on a primal level. Without their history, they just naturally would be together. Still one of my top 5 Sterek favorites.

Original review

Woahhhh I was not expecting to like this fic so much I expected quirky and funny, and it was in its own way but it was also so heavy. I need more so much more pleaseeeeeee. I wish this was longer and scenes more fleshed out, but even as is its' a great short.

If you ever find yourself banished to a desert island and you can only take one fic with you, don't take this one. Stiles' annoying ADD voice will make you dragon-punch your ereader/phone/laptop just to make that voice shut up and what if that ereader/phone/laptop is your only device that can access the internet?

So I guess you could print out this fic instead. Smart choice. You can kindle fire with it if you see a ship on the horizon.

Then again, wouldn't you rather print and read something where Stiles' inner inane ramblings don't get in the way of making out with Derek?

Well, this was a nice surprise. Somehow, after reading the blurb, I was expecting an alternate universe with Stiles and Derek becoming hunters or something like that in a world filled with zombies or some other unworldly creatures.

This little gem was very insightful, spot on with how I imagine Stiles and Derek would act without the memories I couldn't find any flaws in the logic or flow of events (though I imagine you could, if you looked more closely which I won't). And such a beautifully designed plot,

I wish this had been longer

Well it's been ages since I've read a Sterek story and this was a great one to come back to. I can't remember what prompted me to read it, which is quite appropriate as when it starts Derek and Stiles find themselves in the middle of a fight and they have lost their memories. One thing they do know however is that they are finding it hard to keep their hands off each other!
