Note:

The original version is finished, however it is undergoing major rewrites which aren't finished. (And personally I like the re-worked version better).

It's been ten years but I'm still rereading every few years waiting for the rewrite to come back from the war. All respects if the author doesn't wanna continue it anymore but just saying: IceraMyst if you ever finish that revision and decided to sell it as an e-book I'm pre-ordering for sure

Things I loved:
*Alim: Alim's gradual rise from harsh opposition to dubious friendship was lovely. I had suspicions such would happen, but I didn't wish to presume, and certainly was delighted to see it done so well. It isn't that such transitions have never been deployed before, but it's surely one if not the best of them I've had the pleasure. I love Alim.
*More evidence that Calentine, the narrator, isn't telling the reader everything (that he should) In chapter 10, Kore edges against hearing crying in the night ... and we learn Calentine is even less composed than we little readers are lead to believe, which is so delicious I wanted to snag Calentine right then and there and give 'im a hug. And the author while I was at it. Group hug.
*The Corsair King's offer: A place in his court? Our humble Calentine? Fuck yes. We know he's damn awesome, but I like to be reminded nonetheless that all know this as well.
*The Corsair King himself: I cheered at his conception. I loved that approving smile he gave to Calentine when he noticed the king's observation of their rag-tag band. I loved how devious he could be, his chill acceptance of Calentine's hostage situation. I like that he was oblivious of the problems in his islands and his people, but the need to do good by them. That Calentine could recognise how well he could grow, and how poorly in the same thought, the possibilities, the trust.
*Calentine, of course.
*As well as our General Superior Asotegi: I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one who nigh swoons at Asotegi's super delectable reactions to Calentine's enthusiastic ministrations. His blushes, his trembles, his moans -- stuff my poor heart can't take, but stuffs it all down in any case 'cause you can't ignore something that sumptuous. I must take this boy home with me.

Things I am resigned to:
*Distance between Asotegi and Calentine: Yes, it's important to the plot, and it creates a necessary tension, but I enjoyed the passionate tension from the prior book oh so much more. I understand it, this forced and distant tension, but I don't have to like it (as Calentine says about the marriage, lol). Sigh.

Its good but incomplete and i doubt it ever will be. Looking at the authors blog their last update on the story was 2 years ago and last personal update over 1 year. I suspect the author has either given up or died.

Story is incomplete, but lovely as far as it goes. I hope she someday finds her muse again and finishes this one.
